Dark. Beautiful. Sensual. Umberlight is a sentient universe born from a vampire's thoughts, populated by eternal autumn creatures. Thorn, with full knowledge of who and what he is, begins to question what it means to be a vampire with the appearance of Atom, a snappy little waif of a self-created vampire who trembles on the edge of destroying himself if he is not "re-created" by Thorn. The more he engages with Atom, the more Thorn realizes that he wants to go "back" to experience the world he once knew as a mortal. Superb characterization and wonderful conversation between the characters makes me ache for the sequel.

Alexis is a master at wordplay and wit. Her characters are sharp and they know it! In Prince of Umberlight she has carefully built an alternative world complete with syntax and comprised of a philosophy that promises to unfold like a budded rose. Her erotic scenes are as savage as is needed for the protagonist and antagonist to co-create their future built on dreams that they hold as reality but have yet to birth. Thorn has created the world he needs to manifest his own dark destiny. Yet, aren’t we all masters of our own fate? Atom and Thorn (love their names, by the way!) hold the tension to that answer long enough to draw the reader into their saga and long enough for the reader to know that only each one of us can answer that question for ourselves. I’ve been drawn into Umberlight as unerringly as Atom was drawn to Thorn. I await Book 2 with impatience.
