For years, the Fuel headlamp has been a staple in the outdoor lighting industry. With an increased demand for red lighting to preserve night vision, we listened, and the Fred was born. Utilizing the exact same ergonimc and lightweight styling of the Fuel, the Fred enables you to preserve night vision with the substitution of a Red LED for one of the white. The Fred will always turn on in the low mode of the Red LED, so you never have to accidently blind yourself or any other people. To eneable the three white LEDs, just hold the button down for 1.5 seconds.

The true testament to this lamp's reliability was discovered on my last trip. The headlamp was lost on a camping trip when thunderstorms and flash floods tore through camp. After about 2 weeks and several more thunderstorms, I returned to the campsite hoping to find the lamp. Lo and behold, the lamp was a short distance away from the campsite. After cleaning the mud and debris off the lamp, it functioned flawlessly.
Overall, this lamp is hard to beat. The pricepoint makes it more than affordable. The batteries are readily available, should you possibly need to change them out. The lamp is durable and dependable. I haven't tried any other competitors because I haven't needed to. It'll be hard to be disappointed with this lamp.
This is pretty close to the perfect flashlight.
This is my 3rd one. Great value....So far so good but items like this are best reviewed after years in the field
The one feature that sold me on this was that red comes on as a default so that you are not night blinded.
There is a way to change that but you had better save the instructions for that. Save them no matter what in case you accidentally make white come on first and want to change it back! It is not very intuitive to do this.
Light: The lumen count is not high, but it's incredibly effective for most low-speed tasks. For camping, hiking or an emergency light to keep in the car it's great. It's low lumen count is great for kids as well; mine tend to 'shine' people with their headlamps. If the lamps are too bright his is obnoxious. With this it's not that big of a deal. The low power also contributes to great run times.
Function: The buttons function is great and I enjoy that the red light comes on first and has two power settings. Changing batteries is easy with the built in tool/adjuster on the head band. Adjustment of the light is a two hand deal for me, but I generally only do this once a night, so I'm not taking stars off for that.
Durability: My product-destroyers/children have not been able to break it yet. Not sure how long the hinge on the battery door will last, but under normal use you won't be changing the batteries often. In the four-isa times I've opened the battery compartment I have yet to see stress marks in the plastic.
Value: I think this is a great value for a quality head lamp.
Bonus: It's made in the US! Nice.
