The upgraded 205 lumen Vizz is a feature-loaded headlamp with three distinct beam profiles easily accessed via a simple press, hold, or double press of the button. One Maxbright LED creates a powerful spot beam for long-throw illumination, a pair of white Ultrabright LEDs deliver a dimmable flood beam, and two red Ultrabright LEDs handle close-range lighting while preserving night adjusted vision. When not in use the Vizz can be locked (triple press) to prevent accidental turn on, and the translucent switch acts as a battery level indicator. As with all of PTEC Professional Series headlamps, the Vizz is waterproof (IPX7) and is equipped with regulated circuitry making the Vizz lithium battery compatible. With practical features, the VIZZ is one headlamp to rule them all.

My bottom line: Much to my surprise I will be keeping at least one of my Spot headlamps because the dimming and tap features can not be beat. Princeton Tec missed a real opportunity here to step up and add some of these same features to the Vizz. I want the Vizz Maxbright LED to have a dimming capability like the Spot but full power is your only choice with the main LED. Most of the time I don't need full power and want the capability to dim it to the level I want. Now Black Diamond has a new for 2016 Spot with a 200 Lumen main lamp. In some ways I wish I would have tried the new Spot but it only has three lamps (1 main, 1 red, 1 proximity). Until I see it proven otherwise I still don't see the proximity and red lamp holding a candle to the Vizz but who knows? Lastly, like the Spot the Vizz also operates from a single button protocol. What is better about the Spot is the tap to dim feature which is great when wearing gloves. Operating the Vizz with gloves is difficult unless the gloves are very thin. The button on the Vizz is much harder to press than on the Spot even for me when not wearing gloves. Personally, this is a very useful headlamp but for my tastes is a 3.5 stars item as it could benefit from a few more Spot-like features and upgrades. As far as a value for the price perspective- for what I paid this headlamp is in the 4-4.5 star range because lighting performance-wise it is a much, much, better headlamp than the 2015 Spot and anything else currently in it's class at 200+ Lumens. It's also currently $5-7 less than the 2016 Spot.
The Vizz 205 Lumen weighs 3.4 oz with the supplied batteries installed. The old 2015 model Spot weighs 3.3 oz with batteries installed and the 2016 Spot is 3.1 oz including batteries.
UPDATE: I'm now the owner of two 2016 Black Diamond Spot models. Currently the 2016 Spot can be had for under $30 which is a steal for what you get. The Vizz does have a cleaner cool white main beam but otherwise the Spot is equal or in most cases better and is much more feature rich in general. The Spot is better on battery consumption too. Lastly, the Vizz is IPX7 and new Spot is IPX8. I like the Vizz, but love the new Spot. I do have to applaud P-Tec though for being made in the USA and for their limited lifetime warranties.
I use it to hike, camp, work under the house, work on my car, and as a backup light for when I bike.
