Nextly, DO NOT BUY THIS EDITION! Yes it is cheap, but this copy contains NO PICTURES! If you read this and think at the end of it that you have gotten the full experience then you would be mistaken. The artwork is just as important as the text, you are essentially missing half the book.
Do yourself a HUGE favor and buy a different version.
All of the main text is here, but you lose some of the humor and most of the mystique because you lost all of the illustrations. I'd recommend going the more Discordian route and printing out a copy of the illustrated edition if you can't find one for sale. Make your own booklet, maybe with a neat cover, a hole punch, and yarn.
But hey, if don't take me too seriously. Especially if you've never owned an edition and think yarn is scratchy. This IS the Principia Discordia so if you don't mind the loss of images it's worth a buy.
Over the past 25 years, I've owned many copies of the Principia Discordia. From photocopied versions passed around in college, to the Steve Jackson edition, to the yellow cover Loompanics edition. I bear a Holy Name. I have the Five Fingered Hand of Eris tattooed on my flesh. I have aided in the illuminization of many popes.
Let us make no mistake. This is *A* copy of the Principia Discordia. The information contained in it does, in fact, exist.
That said... do NOT buy this version.
It is stripped of the janky and charming illustrations, margin words, and other tomfoolery of many other versions. The typesetting of it is reminiscent of someone copy/pasting from a website into MS Word for Windows 95. While the text is there, the soul is diminished.
I decided to purchase this version because, really, I buy every version I happen upon. (and it was Amazon Prime eligible) I like to see what the different versions are like.I had never been disappointed by one of them up until this point. This one is stripped of its soul, and I really don't like the thought that this could be someone's introduction to discordianism.
I am returning it today. If you must own one copy of this book, and let's be honest, you must (unless you mustn't) definitely grab the yellow cover Loompanics edition.
If you buy this book:
You will become a completely confused believer of the non-faith "Discordia", you will act as the antithesis to all organization. You do not need to open this book or read it, because you cannot use this text as a guide for living life. Additionally, you must become fully dedicated to not understanding or interpreting this holy manuscript. You will not be able to live by the tenets of Discordia, nor should you listen to the guidance of other non-spiritual leaders of Discordia.
Discordianism is the great superpositioned, negatively charged, non-religion. As such, it completes the synthesis of polarity. A black hole has formed and a center is created. This is the event horizon, from which there is no return, yourself and all things will be pulled into gravitational singularity.
