Mark I. Montrose is an expert in the fields of regulatory compliance, electromagnetic compatibility and product safety including extensive research, design, test and certification for various product categories. He has authored and presented a myriad of papers on the topics of EMC theory and signal integrity at both commercial and EMC symposiums and colloquiums throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.
Mr. Montrose is a senior member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and member of the Board of Directors of the IEEE EMC Society. In addition, he is a distinguished lecturer for the society and active participant in local, national, and international activities of the society. Moreover, Mr. Montrose is the author of the best-selling companion book, EMC and the Printed Circuit Board: Design, Theory, and Layout Made Simple (IEEE Press, 1999). Buy this book before you design and there will be no more scrapped boards. Really.

I recommend this book for PCB designers or early career Electrical Engineers who need to incorporate some EMC design considerations at the BOARD LEVEL.
For those wanting a next step up book on PCB and EMC Techniques, I recommend 'EMC for Product Designers' by Tim Williams which is an intermediate treatment on EMC issues and solutions , as well as testing.
For those who are looking to solve SYSTEM and SUB-SYSTEM EMC issues, then the EMC Design Engineering book is 'Electro-Magnetic Compatibility' by Henry W. Ott. This is a very detailed and intensive understanding of the subject matter and is very comprehensive text but also an incredible amount of information to digest. Typically not for the beginner.

However, I found some parts of this book are quite difficult to follow as the author might assume that the readers are experience engineers who know all the jargons and theories. For instance, I am confused with chassis ground and system ground. Sometimes the author say should connect chassis to ground, sometimes he said it mustn't. The term "dipole antenna" appears quite often in the book, but it is not clearly explained what it is.
In conclusion, the books give decent PCB layout guidelines to prevent EMC problem. However, it doesn't provide readers the knowledge to do precise analysis and simulation to tackle signal integrity/EMC problems that might arise. I would recommend to get "Signal Integrity Simplified" as a companion book.
