2nd gripe I have is with the organization, the flimsy plastic holders that hold the pencils slide the pencils out of order and make a mess. Of course I bought this for the pencils, not the container, but I did find, for me personally -and you may have a better idea- the best way to organize them was to simply rubber band the shades together. I separated the different colors (blue, green, red etc) then put black/white/silver/gold separate, gray tones separate and then skin tones (pinks and tans) separate since I frequently use those 2 sets in conjunction with one another. So far it's worked out very well. If you aren't mobile and have a work desk of course it would make more sense to have some kind of fixed holder.
As far as the pencils themselves, they wear very fast but they color and blend very well and that makes it worth the cost if you're serious about your work. They are waxy so they slide on the paper very naturally, I press down hard and they hold up pretty well without ripping through the paper. I used to love art growing up but the past 10 years my life has been work and problems and I got away from my one true talent. I hope if you're dreams are to become an artist you follow them, I regret not following mine but I'm trying to relearn all I lost.
Look at the difference between the two sets!- The size, graphic print and actual quality of the cans, and how the pens are arranged when you first open the box.
As stated from countless sources I have found several pencils splitting and cracked all the way down the entire length. I have only used two pencils and now I have a gut feeling that all the other common issues that I have read about are in store for me to experience too.
And the worst part: The gamble comes because now Amazon is telling me this item is ineligible for return or exchange. So I am stuck with a product having a wide poor quality to investment ratio. So I guess I am stuck using these until they're gone. I would feel better with Crayolas. At least their quality is EXACTLY whay you'd expect when paying.
Also, in a all too late comparison I searched reviews for Faber Castell colored pencils. Those seem exceptional. I will never purchase any Prismacolor again and warn people to save their money.
Top reviews from other countries
I bough the exact same set about 6 months ago and had run out of some colours and I thought I'd just buy another set as it's much cheaper in the long run.
How did I know they are counterfeit? Quite a few ways.
The moment I opened the tin I knew something was wrong, loads of strange colors I'd never seen before. Now this isn't a case of colors I didn't have in my other set but colors that are supposed to be the same but completely different. See my pictures.
In the picture the short pencils are the real prismacolor and hue longer pencils the fakes. The pencils are supposed to be the same color as the ones they're directly next to but as you can see there is quite a difference.
They feel different, everything from how they lay down on paper, how they (don't) blend and (don't) layer. How they feel when sharpening, the noise they make when you drop them and even their smell. These are not prismacolor.
As I'd bought the exact same set before, at a slightly higher price, and was extremely happy with them I didn't bother to look at the reviews. But a quick look shows a lot of people are having the same issue as me which makes me wonder why amazon are continuing to sell these?
Yellow pencils- the original one is on the right, sharpened different
Black pencil - bottom is the original
Blue pencil, the top is the new original replacement (its a different shade blue)
