Waël Hassan is a leader in the fields of privacy compliance, data management, and data analysis.He has a Master's degree in Computer Science from Concordia University, and a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Ottawa, where he wrote the first Canadian thesis on validatingprivacy compliance.
Waël is a member of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) learned society, the Instituteof Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and a contributing member of the ISO Standardscommittees on security, biometrics, and privacy. He has published several papers in ACM, IEEE,and RELaw conferences. He designed PrivaDoc, the first cloud computing privacy mechanism,and invented the Process Based Access Control model for privacy.
After working in the privacy and security field for a number of years, in 2012 Waël founded KI De-sign, a Canadian company with offices in Toronto and California, which provides information security and big data consulting, and technology-development services. As CEO, he has collaboratedwith a wide range of clients across different sectors, from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies,including international aid organizations, healthcare organizations, financial institutions, telecommunications corporations, aviation companies, energy utilities, and various federal and provincialgovernment agencies.
Waël is also the founder of KI Design Magazine, a monthly online periodical dealing with issues ofbig data, social analytics, privacy, and cybersecurity.
