About the Author
"If I were to describe myself, it would be Life Writer. Although I mainly write poetry and prose, I don't limit myself to a certain style nor a certain subject. I write about what I can relate to or if I can mirror someone else's experiences." As a writer, Queen of Spades is the author of Reflections of Soul, the Eclectic collection (Skin Edition and Beyond the Skin), and Spaded Truths: Themes and Proclamations. Her upcoming project includes a short story collection, Continuous Drips. As a reviewer, she serves on The Review Board, which provides in-depth, honest reviews on books (primary focus), movies, webisodes/TV shows, and music. In addition, Queen of Spades has a column entitled "A Queen's Ramblings" and of the contemporary, up and coming All Authors Magazine. One head, many crowns. All roles she serves proudly.

As the title suggests, this short collection of poems is a recounting of one woman's very private pain. From child to adulthood, you become a witness to the devastating atrocities committed against her in heart wrenching detail. Crude and visceral, PRIVATE PAIN: AMIDST THESE ASHES will touch you and hurt you and make you wish that you could have scooped up this child to your breast and sheltered her.
This book is not for children and does contain a trigger warning. It also provides links and helplines for sufferers of abuse.
I downloaded a free copy of this book of poetry from Amazon during a promotion, and am I glad I did. I haven’t sat and read poetry in a while, which is something I regret–even more so now I’ve read this.
The author, Queen of Spades, bares her heart and soul in this very honest compilation. The verse is moving and heartfelt, and incredibily succinct. This is not for the faint-hearted, as it doesn’t hold back: not on the content or the language … however, I feel the work is all the richer for it.
The poems highlight the pain of the writer’s formative years, and the questions which remained at the time of writing. Rich, evocative, full of imagery, and soul wrenching. I feel it took a lot of courage to publish this very personal work, which follows the poet’s journey from birth/coming of age/to the person she has become today.
If you enjoy modern verse, then this book is one you don’t want to miss. I’ve already purchased Reflections of Soul, Queen’s first published compilation.
A brilliant book and one that I would thoroughly recommend.
