External dimensions of this folder are 11.5" x 13.5"
Each pocket can be stuffed with up to 1.5" of (10.25" x 13") paper in its deep gusseted pockets; although 1.25" of music per side is a more reasonable maximum. Note that this is not sufficiently large for some [large format] sheet music to fit, so check yours before ordering...
Protec makes a similar, but lower capacity folder, the Model F2E; it has less deep pockets that are just under 10" wide; and holds less music overall.
The F3E is best when you need to hold a lot of sheet music. E.g., I bought four of these folders for the several hundred charts used by our swing band; there's over an inch of music in each pocket of each folder.
Quality is excellent, and is a good choice IF your music will fit the pockets.
Makes everyone else jealous (Band for life)
Doesn't make my band director pick better music.
Having that said, this folder deserves 5 starts in every category.
Built: leather material, professional looking, sleek, slim.
Storage: I have around 30 pages of printed music on the left pocket and 5 music scores (etudes/Pieces) on the right pocket. This folder fits them all and keeps the entire folder looking slim.
Security: There are two rubber straps on the side, which will secures the folder to its maximum safety. You do not have to worry about your music being folded or slip out of the folder. Even when the folder is at its thickest point, the straps which is made of rubber, will stretch its tension to protect the music by securely tightening the folder.
I'm a freelancer clarinetist and this folder fits perfectly into a backpack and my instrument case without any hassle. 100% satisfaction guaranteed!! :)
Two local community bands that I'm in use standard unpadded music folders that are 12 3/4" wide x 14 1/4" high x 1/4" thick, with two pockets that can each accommodate 3/4" of music. This Protec folder is 11 3/4" wide x 13 3/4" high x ½" thick, with pockets that can each hold an inch of music. Either folder is sufficiently large for any band music in our band's huge library.
For use by an individual, the padding is a nice touch. However, if used by a large band in volume, the extra 1/4" thickness per folder could be a storage issue if folders are stored centrally. That is, for every four Protec padded folders, an additional inch in storage space would be needed, versus unpadded folders.
The Protec is nicely made with a soft black exterior vinyl, a stiff cardboard backing, brass-plated steel corner reinforcements, and is well-stitched. There's an interior pencil holder. The only issue is that if you leave the folder on the stand, any music placed against it will need to be clipped on somehow. That's because the folder's pocket flaps sometimes won't allow music to lay flat. Personally, I keep the folder in my gig bag while pulling out only the charts being played. But, this could be an issue for some players/singers.
I needed two folders, but bought only one to check out the quality. I'll be getting another one...
