I usually buy the 3M gaffers tape. This was less expensive and had terrific reviews, so I went with it.

I used it one time so far on a single photo shoot, and now I'm cleaning tape glue residue off everything I used it on, including my lights, stands, furniture and and props - everything. And I'm not talking about just a little glue - I mean a LOT of it - on everything it got used on.

And before you speculate that this was user error, yes, I know how to slowly remove gaffers tape to keep from leaving residue. I've been doing this for many, many years.

I'm just glad it happened in my own studio on stuff I own, rather than at a client's location and on stuff they own, which would have been a complete disaster!

That leftover tape glue residue makes it useless as true gaffers tape.

It also feels thinner / not as strong as the 3M gaffers tape I'm used to. I would call it black cloth-backed duct tape, rather than gaffers tape.

I won't scrimp again on price when buying gaffers tape.

If you plan to use this tape in a way where the tape never needs to be removed, it will probably work for you. But if you plan to use it as intended and then remove it after the shoot or event, stay away from this inferior product.

What I received was NOT ProGaff brand tape. It was gaffers tape, and it was white, but it wasn't the name brand it is being sold as. See photo

This is NOT Pro-Gaff tape. Do not be fooled by their picture. The tape I received was not as sticky and was not even cloth tape. Instead it's almost a vinyl finish. It works for some things but if you work in the motion picture industry, this will not work with your lighting. Beware!

I've been buying this brand exclusively for many years now for pro AV work. There are a lot of tapes out there claiming to be "gaffer" tape that are nothing more than duct/duck tape with a matt finish. Most of them leave adhesive behind and some aren't even cloth backed. This is the real deal- it blocks light, has a matt black (if black is ordered) finish, and the adhesive, while strong, releases cleanly. Yes- it's more expensive- because it is the real thing. I have yet to have a cable, stand, carpet, wall, backdrop, mic, camera, speaker, or anything else ruined by this tape. I can't say that for cheaper alternatives I've tried.

I feel compelled to address some of the bad reviews I've seen:
Gaffer tape is gaffer tape! It is not duct/duck tape, and while it can do a lot more- it is designed to -temporarily- affix and mark items for stage and screen, photography, videography, lighting, AV, etc. It is not permanent, it isn't an automotive or construction adhesive, it isn't electrical tape, etc. If you leave any tape for months or years, or out in the sun- it is going to leave adhesive and probably damage something, or it is just going to come undone. If you aren't using it for its purpose- it will disappoint. That's not the fault of Pro Tape, or any real gaffer tape manufacturer.

I have a very specific use for this tape , I use it on my Phantom3 pro drone to mask the red front facing leds to be able to make night shots without the red glare they would otherwise produce, it works great, prevents having to hach the drones wiring and comes of without leaving residue. I am sure I will plenty plenty of other uses for this tape. It is a safe alternative for duct tape and tears easily from the roll by hand

As expected I found multiple uses for this great tape, I use it for exemple to tape my camera remote trigger to my tripod so that the hot shoe stays available for a flash. The tape leaves no residue, so your equipment stays clean after removal of the tape, I use it on loose battery covers( we all have those). I will make sure I always have aroll available and it resides in my camera case now permanent

I had ordered this and had it shipped to friends in the US since I live in Canada, but when I went to pick it up I discovered they had sent the wrong product. It was a plastic tape, not gaffer tape at all, and not the right brand. I contacted them and they quickly sent out the correct tape directly to me here in Canada because I wouldn't be able to make it back down to the US in the near future to pick up another parcel. This was greatly appreciated, and it is infact the correct tape this time (ProGaff brand gaffer tape), and is exactly as expected. Very nice gaffer tape - nice and grippy. In the end, I'm a happy customer!

Have a new ford fusion and attempted to use on a flat cable but the tape did not stick to the sides of the console. Stuck to the cable just fine. The sides are a soft vinyl. Went by the reviews when i purchased but was very disappointed.
