I christened this station by building a 1970's Radio Shack Science Fair P-Box kit. I just had to go ultra-retro with this. I started working about 9PM and came back up for air at 2AM - I had that much fun and got so lost using this thing.
The base is exactly the right size and weight. I was able to bend the magnifying glass in all directions and the thing never tipped over. The sponge is a standard addition to any soldering station (dampen the sponge and use it to remove black slag off the soldering iron). The brass wool was a sweet bonus - use that to remove extra solder from the iron.
The soldering iron holder is exactly the right size - you simply have to insert the soldering iron up to the handle and let it dangle. The inner heat sink will catch the iron. I never had a problem with the iron falling out. The angle is also just about exactly right, just low enough to grab the iron easily. The holder screw was loose on arrival. I decided to switch sides (there is a second screw on the left side to swap sides for the holder).
The magnifying glass is outstanding. The big glass is huge, making it easy to work under. There is a small higher magnification circle that is good for identifying part numbers. The lights are incredible. There is a ring of LEDs all the way round the magnifying glass. They provide fine even illumination (actually, they'd be great for close up photography). You have a choice of power source, the included AC adapter, or 4 AA batteries in the rear compartment. The battery pack sits freely inside the compartment.
The biggest surprise, the kit has a vinyl cover for the magnifying glass to keep of dust. Now how cool is that?
There are two alligator clips to hold things. The clips can be rotated and moved all over the place. The only minor trouble I had was tightening the articulation points enough to keep heavier objects in place. There are so many points to rotate these things, an object can be held just about anywhere.
The big bonus to me was that funny looking bar in the back. At first I couldn't figure out what to do with that - hey surprise, it holds a reel of solder and a couple of wire reels. How handy is that?
The kit has one sweet soldering iron. This is a simple 15 watt iron with a fine tip. It comes pre-tinned so it will work right out of the box. Speaking of the box - wow the carrying case is something special. The iron gets very hot - it might take some time get the timing just right for integrated circuits. I didn't manage to burn out any components while I was working. However, I did melt some insulation and plastic. As the evening went on, I got better at using less time and heat to solder. The iron uses a three prong grounded plug. The cord is about five feet long - or more than long enough to sit at a high counter and plug it in on the floor.
Yeah, I like this soldering iron a lot. The handle never got even warm. I've used so many irons where the final plastic ring gets very hot - this one stays nice and cool. It also maintains consistent heat. I had it plugged in for two hours and it never overheated or cooled down. The tip is replaceable, if you can ever find a new tip. I'd guess it is better to just buy a new iron if the tip wears out.
At twice the price this would be a great deal. But come on, this is just $25 when I wrote this review. That is, without question, the steal of the century. I'd pay $25 for the soldering iron alone.
Do you get the idea I really loved this workstation? Yeah, it is really that good.
There are two versions of this product - one is the soldering station all alone, the other includes a bonus soldering iron. If you already own a soldering iron, then you will want this product: Pro-Line Helping Hands Soldering Station with Illuminated Magnifier. The review I wrote for the station alone is very similar to this review.
I was provided a review sample.
The heavy steel base is 8" x 6.5" in size with slip-resistant feet for stability. Flexible arms are 5" apart and end with alligator clips that can hold a variety of objects securely in place. The loops is 5.5" inches accross and 10 LED lights are mounted in a circle around it. The goose neck that holds the loops and the lights is 8" long. The neck is very flexible and stays in the position you put it.
Soldering iron stand, solder spool holder, brass mesh tip cleaner and cleaning sponge are attached to the base. The unit runs either from AC power (AC cord and adapter are included) or on 4 "AA" batteries (which are not included).
The soldering iron has an ergonomically shaped handle which is 6.5" long. It stays cool while you use it, and its texture is grippy. The package includes a 2" x 2" safety stand. The soldering iron has ceramic heating element and heats up quickly. Maximum temperature is 824°F (440°C). The tip is iron-clad chrome-plated and replaceable. The soldering iron has a 8-foot power cord.
In attached video you see my husband working on the banana plugs for audio cables. He thought the alligator clips worked great, the light was sufficient, the magnifying glass was helpful. After completing the project he gave both the soldering station and the soldering iron 5 stars.
I received a sample station and soldering iron with a request for an honest review. Getting a sample does not influence what I say, the review is purely based on how the product worked. My husband is very happy with the soldering iron and the soldering station.

Very helpful items. Soldering iron while thinner and smaller than my previous soldering iron, it has just enough power/heat(15watts) to do what I need it to do. However some may/would require something in a higher wattage.(I really love the smaller tip) I also like the fact it comes in it's own little case which makes it easy to carry around and put away on my desk.
The best part of this set is the "helping hands." It was bigger than I thought it would be.(which is a very nice thing) It seem heavy and stable,
hasn't tipped over on me yet. Leds are much brighter than I expected but that is a very welcomed surprise. I also like the fact the lights can be powered via batteries or wall outlet.
The holder for the soldering iron does a fine job holding the soldering iron as it should, thought larger more bulkier soldering irons will not fit.
Haven't used the little sponge or the brass tip cleaner. The arms once adjusted holds things tightly in place.
Though I would suggest be careful how you grab/twist and move the magnifying part(where the magnifying glass connects) as the neck as I have seen another reviewer talk about how theirs broke at the neck, thus far I have not noticed any problems with the unit I have.
While there are bigger better more expensive units out there, for the price this one does get the small light weight jobs done. I hope to get a lot of good use from this set. Unless other wise noted I would recommend this set.
