Because of the price, this paddle is definitely an investment. I recommend getting a paddle cover to protect it.
Update: After ten months, I am convinced that in addition to nice control it has unusual pop. I am not commenting on spin potential because I seldom try to spin the ball. Actually the description of this paddle is goofy. What does James Dean have to do with pickleball? The surface is not course, but very lightly textured. The perforated handle is very comfortable, not sticky, and tends to stay dry. I paid $80 last December -- it was on sale $10 off. Comment: The price of pickleball paddles is getting out of hand. I now see paddles for $135.
Update: I have purchased a second one of these, and like the first one, it has a rough unfinished joint between the handle and the face. As with the first one, I added black plastic electricians tape around the top of the handle to cover that joint. Without the added tape, I would not be particularly comfortable recommending the paddle. With the tape added, it is great.
I felt that the packaging was flimsy. The paddle came covered in a thin plastic cover which doesn’t offer much protection during transit. I returned one paddle because both the sides of the paddle had a fair amount of scratching on them
