Didn't have rats until the county water district cut down all the brush along the slough across the street and disrupted the rats' established colonies. Every year we seem to get more (and bolder) rats that eat up our garden plants. Used rodent poison bait for a while, but hate to have poisoned rat carcasses tempting the neighborhood cats and dogs. Tried peanut butter, cheese, fruit for bait in traps...No luck. The rats stole some kinds of the bait and weren't attracted to the others. The professional pest control guy I hired was expensive and only minimally successful. Saw this product and its great reviews on Amazon and, out of desperation, decided to give it a try. Caught a rat the first night! The possum, that I've also been battling, ate the trapped rat and left just the rat's head in the trap. Eww! I haven't caught anymore in the 3 days since but I know there are still a few out there since I saw two running along the top of the wooden fence the next evening. Maybe they've already learned to avoid that bait. Hope not.
Update: still working several days later (I have not refreshed the bait). I'm up to 7 mice! Also, the dog has hidden one of the mouse traps and licked the bait out of another- I'm so glad it's non-toxic!
Update: Caught one in garage, but it got caught sideways, by running over the trap placed against a wall. If it had triggered the trap by touching the bait, it would have been a clean neck break klll.
