So while i was opening the pool up this year, a friend had accidently allowed the leaves to go into the pool. I purchased this item too scoop out the leaves with out really spreading them out as they had fallen into a big pile where the later would be. Anyway, so I put this in and pushed it along the floor and it literally was just scooping the leaves out perfect. I will say if this did not have an aluminum core it definitely would have broke. I filled this bag up almost all the way with wet leaves for about an hour and I was very pleased at the way it worked. It was even able to scoop up sediment because of the plastic rim design covering the aluminum. I wouldnt look any further if this is what you are looking for. Its a fair price and I even got it the next day after ordering (may not be the same for everyone), but point being it went out very fast.

We've been through many a rake over the years. Wish I would have found this unit years ago! Definitely a durable rake/net.

The rake is not sturdy enough where the frame goes into the handle. The frame keeps bending sideways if any pressure is put on it. Also in raking leaves from the bottom of the pool, whenever you stop the rake, the net is so light that it continues to go forward, turning inside out and dumping all the trash back into the pool. Also the front of the rake should be slanted more to scrape up the leaves.

Purchased on Jan 26, 2014. Broken on April 10th, 2014. The alum rake frame bends very easily when scraping the bottom of the pool. Constant bending and straightenning of the frame at the handle broke it.

Maybe we had a bit too many leaves in our pool for this to work, but it literally broke after less than 1 hour of use. It was used in a 20x40' pool that is totally in the woods, & had all the Fall leaves in it, & the pool was drained to about 6". After about 30 minutes of it working well, it broke in a way that would not allow it to scoop any more leaves at all. This happened when I was kind of shoveling it in to a lot of leaves that were in sort of a heap, in one area of the pool. For light use, in an un-drained pool, it may work great, but all I know is from our experience, it did not work...but, since I feel that we were putting it to the test more than most people would, with our pool situation, I give it 3 stars.

I've had this pool leaf rake for a year now and am impressed with how well it holds up... even with my abuse... I'm tough on tools, and expect everything to last regardless. My pond has numerous trees around it, hence,... numerous leaves falling into it. This rake has had to hold alot of weight along the way. I have a river birch which drops leaves all summer & drives me insane! As much as I love the looks of it, "autumn" seems to start much sooner than it should. When all the trees' leaves begin to shed, I put nets over the ponds. There are actually 3, plus a stream (which I can't cover due to the need for birds to bathe). This "pond" leaf rake shows no signs of wear. I didn't realize originally when I went to order it , that it didn't come with a handle until I read someone's comment in the "Review" section so I went to Home Depot & found one that was 8-12 ft. long on clearance for about $12.- I think.
The shape of it makes it easy to go along the bottom with ease. All in all, I would highly recommend.

UPDATE Oct 14, 2015: Still Happy as a fish in water!
Every time I use this thing, I think "I have to update my review". If all the "tools" in my life would last like this leaf rake, I would be one happy camper. It's astounding to me that with all my use & abuse, this thing just won't give up! I have a ton of debris in my back pond which is basically the "workhouse" of my 3 pond system so therefore has the most debris. I scrape leaves, algae and often pebbles out with this rake and the net is so heavy, I can barely lift it to empty into the pile. I've done this over & over again and it is still as strong as the day I bought it. I chuckle sometimes when it's holding so much thinking,..." if Yeshua's disciples had this net on the Sea of Galilee, they wouldn't have worried
about it breaking"!

I should have purchased this net a long time ago for my above ground pool. It does a great job of collecting leaves and pine needles that accumulate on the bottom of the pool.

North Texas is a part of the country that regularly experiences extreme hot/cold conditions. I have learned over the years that NTX isn't very kind to pool equipment - especially pool scoopers/skimmers/whatever you want to call them. I have gone through many - with some lasting as long as 2-3 years. This particular model lasted just over a half year.

The frame quickly bent and the net has since developed a couple of decent sized holes. This product's premature failure especially pains me - since this item cost me twice as much 6+ months ago as it sells for now.

I believe the storage situation for my pool scooper du jour has no doubt played a role in the hastened demise of my assorted nets over the years (scooper/pole stored on west facing rack on side of deck fence). While that is a feasible explanation for the net failures, it still isn't any excuse for the bent frame on this particular model. Hence the single star rating.
