I've been using TicWatch watches since mid 2019 and have owned the TicWatch Pro 2020, the E3, and now the Pro 3 Ultra GPS. Overall, I have loved each watch more than the previous, as the watches keep getting better and better in form and function.
For this review, I am only comparing the Pro 2020 with the Pro 3 Ultra, as they are similar grade watches, compared to the much lighter, sporty, and casual E3.
For weight and size comparisons, the Pro 2020 is 77g with the original leather/silicone strap whereas the Pro 3 Ultra is 69g with the original rubber strap (weighed at home). Compared to the Pro 2020, the Pro 3 Ultra is slightly wider (2mm) and the screen is a smidge larger (1.4 versus 1.39), but also slightly slimmer (.3mm). The design of the Pro 2 Ultra does make it look sleek, classy, as it's not as chunky as the Pro 2020.
The Pro 3 Ultra's battery life is much better than the Pro 2020 by leaps and bounds. For comparison, with all the health features and monitors turned on, plus notifications for social media and chat apps, weather, etc. the Pro 2020 would last me a day and had to be charged at night or early morning. The Pro 3 Ultra easily gets to day 3 and could make it to day 4, maybe 5 if I wasn't so paranoid about letting it get under 25% battery!
This excellent battery life is in part because of a much larger battery (577 mAh vs 415mAh), more efficient CPU (Snapdragon 4100 vs 2100), and Bluetooth (5.0 vs 4.0).
Pairing process is similar to previous TicWatch watches and should only take a few minutes to complete. In my case, I know WearOS can be finicky, and my setup locked up midway through the initial process. This is no reflection on TicWatch hardware, but a Google software issue. In this situation, I did a watch factory reset (to start over) and was able to get it setup without issue the second time around.
Once setup, the watch was snappy in responses to touch, and speedy to launch apps. Screen looks gorgeous, bright as always.
The second screen, always an excellent and quick way to get watch basic info such as time, date, steps, battery life while conserving battery life, now also has a colorful backlight you can adjust to be any one of 18 colors. One thing I wish it had was independent brightness control. Reason I like this second screen feature is for checking the time in the dark, without having to blast the whole room with bright light or messing with my main face settings.
Phone calling on the watch is nice to have, no doubt! Tried a few calls using my watch and all worked as it should. People reported they could hear me without issue, very clear audio. On my side, other than the fact sound is coming out of a tiny speaker on my wrist, audio was clear and it was very nice not having to stop what I was doing to run to where my phone was to answer a call.
As for the watch strap, I have mixed feelings about it. It's made of Fluoro Rubber and it's very stiff, sort of difficult to form around your wrist and slip into the buckle and strap holder. The leather/silicone strap the Pro 2020 came with was a joy to wear, to the point where you'd almost forget it was there, whereas this one you can definitely feel. I will definitely switch straps for daily wear, maybe switch back to this hard-rubber for heavier activities where leather would not be a good fit.
For the fun stuff:
* I love the ability to switch watch faces based on mood or my whims. Ticwatch has their own watchface store with lots of freebies and for-pay faces. For those complaining about TicWatch face options or it showing their brand, that is standard practice. Some app creators and famous brands do the same with their faces. That said, if you can't find anything you like in TicWatch's watch face store, there are several other watchface stores out there with both free and for-pay faces.
* It's so convenient being able to control my music with my watch, whether it's my own music or one of the streaming services, also be able to look at song info if you don't recognize a song.
And it's very interesting to monitor your vitals using TicHealth, TicPulse, TicSleep, TicOxygen and more. Lots of potential here, both for TicWatch apps and 3rd party apps also.
Wishes:
* Wireless charging: I know this would likely increase the price of the watch, but it would be a great feature.
* Watch strap more along the lines of the TicWatch Pro 2020, leather and silicone.
Bad Stuff:
The one thing that definitely knocks a star off this watch is the fact it still runs WearOS 2.38. Wear OS 3 was announced in May 2021, released in August 2021, and Mobvoi is still not supporting it. And now WearOS 3.5 is out, a major update released in October.
There are way too many feature improvements and optimizations in WearOS 3.x to ignore, and 3.5 has added even more feature updates and optimizations to the pile. Mobvoi promised to support it later in 2022 and here we are, end of year and nothing. So, definitely hoping this update will be released soon and then as far as I'm concerned, this watch will be a 5 star watch!

So, definitely hoping this update will be released soon and then as far as I'm concerned, this watch will be a 5 star watch!
- The watch is quite comfortable overall and the size is perfect for my wrist. Sometimes if I wear it for too long and some moisture is stuck though, it can irritate my skin a little bit (not too bad though)
-The battery life is really great (up to 2 days), even if I enable 24hr heart rate monitoring (1-2 days on average). Those times would be if I let the watch drain almost completely, but I normally charge it once I get down to ~20%
- The GPS seems pretty accurate. I haven't compared with other watches but from what I can tell it works well.
- At first I thought the vibration notifications were not strong enough, but now that I think about it anything more would probably get annoying.
Some things I wish were different:
- After an update, tilting the watch to view received notifications does not work every time anymore. For example, if more than 1 notification comes in and I tilt the watch to view the second one, the watch only wakes up and doesn't show me the second notification. It is minor, but a little annoying.
-The gestures required to pull down the top menu or view the notifications at the bottom require what I consider too much of a violent motion. It is only slightly uncomfortable for me, so I imagine it might hurt other people's wrists.
- This watch does not support wireless charging, so I need to keep bringing it to the proprietary charger and when I travel I need to be careful to remember to pack the charger. If it could charge wirelessly, I could have more options for when/where I charge it.
Hardware and design. My last TicWatch was a Pro2020 felt like a “pro” watch and that continues here with the Pro 3 Ultra. Mobvoi put together a case made of stainless steel and “high-strength nylon with fiberglass” to give it toughness and a premium feel. Unlike my TicWatch Pro 2020, or my Fossil The Fossil felt quite cheap and gross on the wrist, the Pro 3 Ultra is not going to be mistaken for anything but a high-end smartwatch.
It’s a familiar design, with two pushers and a subtle change to the bezel that help differentiate it from my 2020 Pro. It is large as hell (47mm x 48mm), People say it fit on smaller wrists, but something about how it sits on my smallish wrist doesn’t offend me. I’ve worn the Ultra for 6 days now and while I haven’t ignored the size, it hasn’t bothered me. The weight, at 41g, is on the higher end as well, but again, it’s not so heavy that it’ll impact your mobility or anything.
The pushers have a purposeful click to them without any wiggle or cheapness. There are not rotating crowns or buttons, although always found that these rotating features on other watches were clunky when you have your hands full. Which seems like I always have both of my hands full. watch to read my messages Check my Calendar or look up something on the net. IE what spark plug do I use for this Snowblower. The 22mm included band is quite thick I think I like the leather look band on my Pro 2020 but it’s a well-made rubber strap. You could really put this through it all and I’d imagine this band will hold up to some abuse. Of course, you can quick swap it with any other 22mm band you may prefer.
Overall, the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra looks like a premium smartwatch that can take on an adventure yet dress up if you need it to. And yeah, I’ve worn it for workouts I work at a Hardware store so I can tell you it has taken a beating with no signs of damage. I wear daily with normal clothes or dressed up for date nights and it wears just fine. You can change the face to any of hundreds of faces dressy or fun faces in seconds.
Performance. As I just mentioned above, the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra runs the Snapdragon Wear 4100 with dual processor system. I can tell you what would take minutes with my Pro 2020 takes seconds now.
I can tell you is that this watch performs solidly. After initial setup, I have zero complaints about opening apps, installing updates, jumping between notifications and ongoing activities, using GPS, activating gestures, etc. This watch is certainly taking advantage the dual processor and 1 Gig of Ram and 8 gigs of Rom.
Again, it’s a 4100, which we know is capable, it is miles ahead of all those Snapdragon Wear 2100 and 3100 watches. It is faster and then the Pro 2020 I just know that the watch is a pleasure to use.
Battery life. Mobvoi once again tossed a 577mAh battery into a watch The577mAh battery is big enough that it’ll get you through 4 days of heavy use. That’s what I’m saying, and I have not tried to save any battery by limiting settings I turned on every sensor and turned on every permission.
My setup has been, always-on display on, and all the health tracking activated, like continuous heartrate monitoring, sleep tracking, SpO2 tracking, and their new mental fatigue/energy level measuring feature. It’s all on.
Back to battery. I’ve been wearing the Pro 3 Ultra for almost 6 full days and I’ve charged it 0nce. That’s pretty good! The first charge lasted a full 72hours (14% battery remaining) and included sleep tracking, always-on display, and an 8 hour of workout tracking. The 2nd charge sat at 54% after 36 hours or so with Maps tracking my 30 minutes of hike, a 30 min driving directions home.
If you were to use the dual display, turn off a couple of fitness features, and not use the GPS every day, I could see this watch coming close to the suggested 7 days hours of use. This battery is so big.
The app Menu is amazing it provides you two rows of aps so no endless scrolling to find the app you want. Dump the Wear-OS apps for fitness and use the Tic apps supplied they are well thought out.
It will fully breakdown your sleep and the stages you were in before giving you a score the following morning. It has GPS, which I found to be very accurate. It’ll track your 24-7 heartrate and warn you if things look off, keep a running SpO2 score, remind you to move throughout the day, and (now) try to tell you if you are mentally fatigued and how your energy level is. I wanted to thank you for allowing me to test the Ticwatch Pro Ultra 3 it has been an amazing experience like I said in my review. The battery life is awesome. Even walking on average 5-20 miles a day at work I only have to charge it about every 3 to 5 days. Obviously I am in decent shape my wife and I like to hike and horseback ride canoe on weekends. I have had a pacemaker since I was 19. That being said last December I had my Pacemaker replaced. Because of the pandemic I had to wait close to 5 days before they could get it replaced. During this time the pacemaker was on low power mode which means it was only pacing half of my heart. This was unnerving to say the least. The only thing that kept me confidant of my heart was my Ticwatch Pro Ultra. It kept me confidant that my heart rate didn’t drop to low, and my blood oxygen level was still in the 90 percent range. Then in June I had Covid and as My lungs filled with fluid, I had the same self-assurance that I was healthy. So once again thank you making the TicWatch Pro Ultra 3 not only is it a great watch with an awesome battery that tracks my adventures but it also helps give me peace of mind when I am not at my top health.
