Points noted from other reviews:
YES, the HINGES and gate latches are the very weak link in what seems to be a very durable cage. "Late friday afternoon engineering" compared to the rest of the cage. DO NOT TRUST the hinges or latches to keep your dog confined as I'm sure they will wear and break very quickly with an overenthusiastic dog. HOWEVER, DRILL 4 1/4" HOLES, 2 in the top of the gate and 2 in the bottom of the gate going all the way through. Insert 1/4" eye bolts (or pins) through the holes and your dog will never get out. Simple and easy. This method can also be used to re-hinge and re-latch if the wimpy welds break. Again, simple and easy, no welding required. Do Not Use This Crate Without The Extra 1/4" pins if your dog is at all prone to escaping or destroying crates.
GRATED FLOOR: We've always used the waste pans INSIDE our pens, instead of underneath. This cage is no different. Before fully tightening all the bolts, insert the pan inside (can be done through the door). It fits nice and snug. We use our pans upside down-nothing to chew on and easy to wipe or hose clean.
HOLLOW BARS: Yes they are hollow. Its already 90lbs, if it was solid steel bars it would be impossble to easily assemble, move around and would be pushing 300lbs+ ! You'd also pay A LOT more for the cage and in shipping!Read more ›
I have issues with how the product was sent. This is a large, heavy item. I would have expected packaging that is prepared for that. Instead I get a product that has minor damage and a box that is torn open about three inches. The screws arrived lose....not inside a bag of any kind as most hardware is shipped; fortunately only one screw turned out to be missing. Other issues are:
The powder coating arrived scraped.
One door hinge is bent.
Part of the frame where a wheel is attached is bent so that there is a gap between the wheel "beam" and the crate. It's a gap of about 1/2 an inch.
The only design flaw I see is how the door is locked closed. There are two sliding bars that are held onto the frame by a flange. This flange was bent. It also is much thinner than I would expect. I trust this design has been tested beyond my two month time frame. I don't think it would take much for a dog to push and break the flanges.... if they only knew.
I didn't really have time to return this for a non-bent product. Otherwise I would have given the price. Still I feel this was money well spent. I really like the square bars as opposed to a rounded design.
