I love two things about this book: first, it's a sweet story. I feel like I don't find too many sweet stories within the contemporary romance/erotic genre. Most are either heavy sex or seriously messed up backstory storylines. (I'm not hatin' on those books, though, either. I've read some that I've still rated 5 stars!) With this story, you find two people who have troubled pasts and are trying to find themselves. We see this more with Samantha than Roman, but if you really think about it, Roman's past is just as damaging to his present and, ultimately, future. Finally, I love that these two characters SLOWLY fall in love. There's no insta-romance here, which is becoming increasingly popular in both erotic romance, contemporary romance, and, honestly, just books in general. I find bypassing the insta-romance when writing a standalone book to be incredibly difficult, but Vargo & Andrea did this phenomenally. (If you're reading this, WELL DONE, ladies!) I will say, because of this, you don't get into the juicy sex scenes until the last half of the book. I was okay with that, and it made their first sexual encounter so much better on the reader's end.
Fantastic read that I highly recommend.
Unlike the previous books I have read by this dynamic duo, The Procedure told a story that was unexpected. While I am used to reading a gritty erotic story with at least one major alpha male, I was met with a very empowering story. A surprise, a delight and an all around fantastic book.
A woman has found herself lost in perfect life she and her husband built together. The strong, determined, intelligent person she once was seems to have disappeared as the years passed. As hard as she tires she just can’t pinpoint when the changes in her life took place. When she looks in the mirror the reflection she sees is just a shell of her former self. He husband who she adores, lives for and loves so deeply thrives as the years go by. For each small piece of herself that seems to disappear without notice, her husband seems to gain. A sad but true statement. This is something that happens over time and we never realize the loss until it is too late. You are so consumed by the hate that used to be love. You long to be touch, to feel desired, to be acknowledged. You allow the thoughts of others to overtake your mind and make you believe the harsh words that cut so deep. You don’t even realize that you have allowed life to live as opposed to living life.
The characters that the story centers around are written with spot on perfection. The character’s physical attributes as well as their personalities were painted in my mind with such ease. Each character’s qualities blazed upon the pages with intense vitality. The emotions of the characters I believe are truly the heart and soul of this story.
This is a story of life, love and everything in between.
A story that shares with us love in it’s many forms. The love that is shared by friends. The love that is shared by husbands and wives. The love we feel when giving to others. The love of one’s self.
A story that teaches us that sometimes what we believe we love may not be the love we need. It teaches us that as time passes people change, as do their hopes, dreams and desires. The paths they set upon earlier in life may be derailed. Some paths lead us to happiness and some to sorrow. Some paths lead us to the truth which at times can be harsh and raw. And some, well they are not the paths we ever thought we would take. It teaches us that love is just a four letter word and at times can be abused in so many ways.
It is also a story of a woman and her journey of self discovery.
All it takes is one person to make you believe anything is possible. To make you believe in the person you want to be. A better version of the person you once were.
Wrapped in the pages of this book is a beautifully written story of life, loss, family, hopes and dreams. It is an empowering story of three people who struggle with three very real problems. A story that showcases not only strength and determination but devastation and weakness as well. It is a story that elegantly shows all sides to a story and does so effortlessly.
