Roby (A House Divided, 2014) delivers another emotional adventure in the latest Reverend Curtis Black novel, telling the story of his two sons. Dillon is very resentful of the time and attention the reverend pays to his other children and ignores advice and help from his beloved aunt and his girlfriend, Melissa. He treats both badly and becomes even angrier when his aunt dies. Reverend Black leaves Dillon in Atlanta, tasking him with finalizing the funeral arrangements, while he flies to the bedside of his estranged son, Matthew, whose wife has become abusive and stabbed him. Matthew’s young marriage is a disaster, and he and his baby, MJ, return to his parents’ home. It is interesting to see the mistakes made by Reverend Black and his third wife, Charlotte, come back to haunt them through the problems of the next generation, and readers will enjoy this continuation. Roby’s use of a scripture overlay lends perspective and irony to the tale, as she builds characters and increases intensity in this powerful installment in her strong and popular series. --Amy Alessio

Dillon, Pastor Black's long-lost son, has tried for the last year to become a real member of the Black family but to his disappointment he still feels like an outsider. Not being able to shake his rage causes Dillon to take matters into his own hands. Sadness turns into fury which becomes his driving force. How far will Dillon go to become the apple of his father's eye? He wants more than anything for Curtis to welcome him back with open arms.
In this novel, Kimberla Lawson Roby tells a very intriguing story surrounding Curtis Black's two sons. What impressed me the most was the way she drew me into the story and wrapped me up in the emotions of the main characters. This story had just the right amount of suspense, drama and love that created a literary masterpiece that is sure to please her current fans and attract new ones. More importantly she honestly yet tactfully addressed very important issues that plague our nation. She gave us enough enjoyment to make me say WELL DONE! She gave us something to think about as well. Great writing! Excellent character development! I absolutely loved it. FIVE STARS!!!!!
Matthew Black and his wife Raquel are living LAC ~ life after Charlotte ~ with all the drama and trouble that she caused them with the kidnapping of their son MJ. Life has not been easy and trying to get back on track has been really stressing on Matthew but he loves Raquel and he is willing to try anything. When things start going sideways in his marriage once again they are really on a path that Matthew is not sure if he is willing to try to bring it back from. While he loves his wife, but is his love going to be enough this time?
Dillon Whitfield is so glad to be around Curtis Black, that is all he ever wanted. He is so amazed at everything with Curtis but what he isn't amazed with is the Black children. He understands that Curtis kids have the right to be around, he doesn't want them around while he is around. They have had him all of their lives now it is his turn, he has missed out on 30 years and he won't miss out on one more day!
The Prodigal Son is not what you expect from the Curtis Black series because you don't have much from Curtis himself but you DO have just as much of the Black family drama. You have the children going through their own situations with the parents in the background but they are always there providing that right amount of umph that you need to say "I know that Curtis/Charlotte has something to do with this!" You have the emotional ups and downs and it is the easy flow of the characters that you just know that it is a book written by Roby and you are glad about it and you can't wait on with it. Congratulations on another great novel!
Roby has fans and people love these books according to all the reviews at the end. Definitely not me.
Matthew on the other hand is still upset with his parents and although he loves and misses them dearly he still hasn't forgiven them for the heartache they caused Raquel. Now one year later he finds that things aren't going as smoothly as he thought it would.
Kimberla Lawson Roby has really outdone herself. This was the first book that I have read from this series and I didn't feel lost. I like the fact that I didn't leave emptied handed. It touched me on a personal level because she focused on issues that occur in families everyday and it made me look at my situation and really evaluate exactly what was going on. So again Thank You. This is definitely a 5 ☆☆☆☆☆!!!!!
