Editorial Reviews

Review

"It's mind-blowing to me how utterly far gone Steve-O was, and how he looks back on it in this book with such intelligence, humor, and searing honesty. What a truly unbelievable life."―Johnny Knoxville

"A great book to read before you get on the roller coaster to hell, if you plan on surviving to tell about it like Steve-O did."―Nikki Sixx, author of The Heroin Diaries

"This is the perfect book for people who hate reading."―Tommy Lee, author of Tommyland

About the Author

Stephen "Steve-O" Glover has made a career of doing crazy, dangerous, unhealthy, ill-advised stunts for the amusement, delight and occasional disgust of audiences around the world. Besides being one of the breakout stars of Jackass' three-season run on MTV, Steve-O starred alongside fellow Jackass alum Chris Pontius in the extreme travel show Wildboyz, which ran on MTV for four seasons and his own Dr. Steve-O series on the USA Network. In 2009, the newly sober Steve-O lasted six weeks on the ABC reality series, Dancing With the Stars, despite the fact that he couldn't dance to save his life. He figured prominently in the first two Jackass feature films, both of which debuted at #1 at the box office, and will be a main player again in the third installment, Jackass 3D, which hits theatres in October 2010. He's also been a frequent guest on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Howard Stern Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Loveline. Professional Idiot is his first book.

I am a female that is not that big on the Jackass thing. But am a loyal fan to Howard Stern and hearing his interview had to buy this book. I figured it would be a good comedy at least. I read it in two days and could not put it down. There was humor yes. But the book itself draws you into his life, mind heart and soul as most really good books do and touches your heart. I loved this book and recommend even if you do not know who he is or why he is famous read it anyway. It shined a bright light to addiction ( to drugs, fame and life)and the reasons and situations that come from it in an honest and heartfelt narrative. Good Job Steve O

We all know Steve-O as the self-abusive, stunt-performing drug addict from Jackass, and that's about all. However, through his book, we learn all about how he set out to set the world on fire and stuck to his plan. Lucky for him, it all worked out!

Written in his self-effacing and brutally honest voice Steve tells it how it all began, the wild tales during his journey and how his drive to succeed almost killed him. For those of us that have followed the ups and downs of his career the book serves as the perfect roadmap of Steve's climb to fame, crash, and redemption.

No punches are pulled and the brutal honesty had this reader loathing, hating, and loving Steve. The risks (both physically and financially) that Steve-O took to accomplish his goals are not seen by most people, who take the safer route to stability and comfort!

A must read for any American who was ever afraid to live life to the fullest!

I must say, this book shocked me. But not in the way you would think.
When I saw the first Jackass movie in the theater years ago, I thought Steve-O was a complete moron. The wasabe snorting up his nose and his penchant for vomiting completely turned me off to the guy. I can't even explain what compelled me to read his book, but I was going through a rough time and needed a distraction, so I bought it.
It drew me in immediately. I was shocked to discover how intelligent and coherent he really is. I flew through the book with relish. He was so candid and honest it was refreshing. I was so impressed by how much he had been through, and the fact that he had not only survived, but thrived. He is now in recovery, a vegan, and has actually become a nice person. The guy is an inspiration.
I completely fell in love with him and it changed my life in so many ways.
I originally bought the Kindle version of the book and i loved it so much I purchased a hard copy of the book so I can hopefully have him sign it for me one day. I pray he writes another one!
DO NOT hesitate to buy this book, regardless if you are a Jackass fan or not. You will not regret it.
Amazing job, Steve-O. You have turned me into a huge fan.

I've been interested in Steve since being introduced to Jackass, by my son. THEN HAD the pleasure of meeting him @LAX and sharing a plane ride. Not only that but going to his Stand up at Mall Of America, conversing before &after the show as well & I found him to be such a sweetheart, humble, and more gorgeous in real life than TV! This book shows how honest and open he is about his life. Makes me proud to have met such an AMAZING MAN. Love you Steve Glover& extremely proud of you FOR all you shared!!!!!!

Part fun read, part earnest parable from a guy who's not afraid afraid to throw himself off buildings, light his head on fire, apply a staple gun to some of the more sensitive parts of his anatomy and (perhaps the scariest and most difficult of all) make himself vulnerable.

Steve-O is more than a good-time guy with a strange career and this book proves it. Though I enjoyed reading about his childhood and early years with the Jackass crew, I would have loved to have seen more of the book devoted to his addiction and the recovery process. Who were some of the people he met during his journey? When was he most tempted to use and how did he handle it? He touches on some of this stuff but I was left wanting more. That said, they call recovery groups "Anonymous" for a reason and maybe that's how Steve-O wants to keep it. Given his past and his compulsive need for attention, I'm sure that's good for his sobriety.

Long review short, buy this book. I guarantee you'll tear through it and (if you're like me) find yourself getting a little misty at the sincerity, hope, and honesty that shine through in the last few pages.

For anyone who likes to read biographies or memoirs, Steve-O's book is the one to read. He holds nothing back and gives new meaning to the words "too much information". His life story is accurately backed up with plenty of video easily found on You Tube. His family and friends also contribute to the book, verifying Steve's accounts of his journey through alcoholism and drug abuse. How he has survived all the ridiculously dangerous stunts while ingesting mass quantities of drugs and alcohol has got to be a miracle. He shares the most intimate details on every aspect of his insane life. He's even beat the odds of achieving sobriety. This book has great potential to inspire anyone battling drug and alcohol addiction that it is possible to overcome their demons. As far as his problems with premature ejaculation? I wish him good luck with THAT.
