Great book and must have for SharePoint 2010 administrators and sharepoint developers! Tood, Shane and Steve did a great job. Book is well written with great illustrations and examples. These guys really know their stuff. Also, I really like Todd's podcast. I listen to it on my Zune when driving to work. Often they will talk about something I read in the book and the podcast is a great refresher.

I do a lot of Project Server 2010 work and this books covers a lot of material not found in the project server books too.

Having to freshly start over with SharePoint I found myself wondering about all the features SP had to offer. So I picked the book up and was very glad that I did. It is well organized and I was able to skip a chapter or two on installing and configuring SP, since that had been done for me already, without missing anything very important. This goes over in fairly good detail of the functions that SP can offer. I found myself asking more questions about workflows and SP Designer but there are other books that can cover that in more detail.

It is a little long and I would say that it is for an admin who does more of the server/farm side of things. If you are a designer/app developer then only about half of this book relates to you directly. However reading all the features and what is availalbe on every end is very valuable to know which is why I thouroughly enjoyed this book.

Extremely well written, highly exhaustive, and very much detailed. I have read the three chapters so far - install/config, backup/restore, and upgrade/migration and they provides all the information what you need to determine the best approach. This is a large book covering almost all of aspects of the SharePoint 2010 and how to administrator the key components - Search, metadata, service application architecture, security, monitoring, social computing, and many more.. This book is from the Todd and Shane who are industry known SharePoint Admin experts and it would make great resource on the SharePoint Administrator's desktop.

This book is truely well written, no argument there. However, I feel that people are running to SharePoint 2010 for the collaboratation that is offered. This means, communities! How do we setup communities? Good point, right. Well I will tell you that after reading this book we learned about the many features of SharePoint 2010, but no details about how to create a community. So I guess I can tell you that I found out the hard way, how to create communities. The simple fastest way to create a community is to create a site collection and add the information for group name. Once all the information has been filled out, you can then add people to the group. An e-mail is automatically generated from SharePoint 2010 to the people in the group detailing the site collection (main page) link and the group link.

I spent considerable time searching the internet (Google), and anything I can get my hands on to referance "how to create communities". Everything I found spoke about communities, but not a step by step on how to create one. Why is this so hard to provide to readers?.

The company I work for spent $1,000.00 for two DVD on SharePoint 2010 "designing a sharepoint environment" and "administrating a sharepoint environment". After watching the DVD's in a two weeek period, nothing was mentioned about how to create communities, only tellling about communities and how great they are. I figured this book "Professional SharePoint 2010 Administration" would be the solution to all my SharePoint 2010 questions.

This book "Professional SharePoint 2010 Administration" is good information but does not walk you through anything completely. This means they expect you to start from their screen shots, assuming that you know how to get there. It would be nice if they detailed what menu to click on to get to the screen they are showing you.

This is my first review so forgive me if I left anything out.
Feel free to contact me.

Thank you.

Hi All,

This is a very good book for a person who is good at SP 2007 and have a hang of SharePoint. This book gives you a very good head start on SharePoint 2010 and gives you confidence to be a very good administrator. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested to know more about SharePoint 2010 and to start your career in SharePoint. Once you through this book, you should buy the SharePoint 2010 Developers book. I am planning to buy one soon.

And, of course nothing to say about Amazon's Shipping. THE BEST, very well packaged and clean book. Would recommend amazon.com anytime to one and all. Thanks amazon and Wrox Rocks!

Thanks

An excellent book on SharePoint 2010 that cover a wide spectrum of topics. It would be suitable for most people who want to better understand what SharePoint 2010 can offer. The main focus is on the SharePoint Server 2010 product rather than SharePoint 2010 Foundation but that doesn't mean that it still isn't relevant for Foundation users.

It covers the whole gambit from installation to branding and customization. The book contains plenty of technical information as well a tutorial style walk throughs to help you better understand exactly what the capabilities of SharePoint 2010 are. I especially like how the SharePoint terminology and functions are described and explained in detail by the author.

In summary the book is a a valuable edition to any SharePoint administrator's library.

No book has all the answers but this book goes a long way. A great resource for any sharepoint administrator . Bought the book to assist me to set up a sharepoint farm at work. It is worth every penny. Farm is up because I am very familiar with the Sharepoint however I am reading it cover to cover to gather additonal tips for my job. I have read several sharepoint books over the years and this in one of the best.

Good book, starts well but dwindles a little into obscurity. It's a step up from a Dummies guide, and will be great for someone with Enterprise, but the book does a terrible job at differentiating between items that are possible in server standard and other versions. It's not an ideal start book, if you've had no experience of MOSS or SP 2007 - it doesn't explain Central Admin well, or Designer. It just goes over what's new in 2010 and how you can do a few things. It's not a great book, but it's about the best there is at the minute, which is a bit lame really.

The book gives a good insight into the administration of SharePoint 2010, the only major drawback is the absence of an accompanying CD, the screenshots are not very visible and defeats the purpose of including the diagrams in the text, if an accompanying CD of either the text and screenshots were available, the book would be an easy read. On occasions, I had to refer to Youtube for graphic representation of screens.

In general, the book gives good insight into the capabilities of Microsoft SharePoint 2010.

It's one of the better books out there for SharePoint 2010 (it's good on the Kindle as well). If you are sitting the Config exam then this book is a must. Naturally, the more books you read the better but this book has an adequate go at it. The author is well known as well in the community - as a previous reviewer has mentioned.
