Matt and Page are back, in this fourth installment of the Watchbearers series. Back in the 1920's, that is, complete with corruption and unrest. With Prohibition in full effect, the police raids and subsequent backroom dealing leave Page and Matt feeling pretty unsettled. Not to mention, someone is following Matt, attempting to cause problems for him at every turn. In their zeal to keep a low profile and observe, has Matt and Page opened themselves up to more problems?
Prohibited Activities is clearly within the science fiction realm, but the historical accuracies within its pages add an extra amount of depth to the story. Readers are able to get a clear picture of the time period, from the setting to the characters. The only issue that I have with the story have to do with Page and Matt themselves. Considering the amount of time travel they have done, it seems implausible that they would continue to make the same mistakes. Knowing that they have attracted unwanted attention, you would think that they would be more careful. I do find the travels interesting, especially the overall story arc. I look forward to more adventures and I hope to catch up with the other Watchbearers in future books.
I enjoy the way that Litherland develops his characters. They are vivid and well developed, but at the same time, Litherland allows you to form your own thoughts and opinions of them. Throughout the novel he drops hints and tidbits about them as they work their way through the events of the story.
This author definitely has a vivid imagination which he brings to life through his intricate and exciting tale. At the same time, it's easy to see the possibilities in the story he tells. The combinations is a fantastic mix!
