This blue ray came packed with extras, interviews, special commercials, and more. It even came in both 16:9 and 4:3 ratio videos. I couldn't help but feel nostalgic about this anime. It was the first movie anime I saw back when I was in JR High in the late 90's. Have I seen anime before, sure! But this movie propelled me to watch so much more anime. And to think, there's more than this movie! I can't recall how many more movies but it's definitely more than 5 Project A-ko movies. I can't wait to get them all! Part two just came out before the end of August 2022!

I used to watch this am when I was 16 and remember my first dvd being incredibly distorted, later on I got the remastered full screen DVD which added a lot of color but cut the edges. Here in this Blu-ray you have a perfect clear transfer of the widescreen with normal color temp, no over saturation like the DVD. There are very few (I counted 3) filming artifacts (white mist/distortion from cell photography). There is classic film grain so it makes it look like the theater, which is a good thing. The sound in Japanese is crystal clear while the English dub is a bit more muted. Overall this is probably Discotech’s best work. A classic restored to perfection and a must own for anyone into anime. Very satisfied.

This is the anime movie that sealed my anime fandom in 1996. This will always have a place in my heart even though it might not appeal to newer fans of the medium. It's worth checking out if you are a serious fan of anime.

The restoration itself is pretty well done, As others have said, it offers both a 4:3 and widescreen option. The colors and lines are well-defined and crisp. The bonus features are collected from a variety of older releases and a welcome addition. I am really happy with what DiscoTek Media has done from the original 35mm negatives and I hope that they eventually release the other movies in the series to do it justice.

THE movie that made me fall in love with anime has now been restored to perfection. The image is crisp and glorious and the extras are extensive. I didn't even know that there was a planned release for a MACOS video game. Now, you have your choices, as you can flip between the widescreen version, the 4:3 version, Japanese or English audio track, director commentary, J-Actress commentary, specials on the making of the music ... if it had something to do with Project A-Ko, it's probably on this disc.

This is one of the oldest anime I ever saw and it still is a pleasure to watch.
I love the over the top and zany story coupled with the gorgeous animation and action. They just don't make em like this anymore.
Definitely not a deep plot at all, it's meant to be more of a surface level fun ride filled with easter eggs and references to big anime of the day, and the whole character triangle is just as insane and fun as ever.
I highly recommend this for anyone who likes anime, wants to get more to the roots, or just likes a fun and silly film. The dub is not perfect, it actually loses a lot of story and characterization, but it is still fun and fits the film to a point.

Project Ako is a classic 80's anime with some of the best pre-Akira cel animation. The design work is consistently bright and colourful, the action smooth and fluid but... it's very, very eighties. From the fashions to the character designs, this movie is very much a product of it's era.
That's not to say that Project Ako is in any way a bad film; I personally love this era of anime and Ako is a great example of it. Added to this is the fact that this is the first ever true HD remaster of it from the recently recovered film masters.
For a project that started off as part of the pornographic "Cream Lemon" series, (before the producers realised that they had something with a much broader appeal on their hands), Project Ako is surprisingly suitable for viewers of all ages. Some of the gags might go over the heads of those who are new to anime (e.g. -ko is a common suffix for Japanese female names, so when a show is being produced with one or more run-of-the-mill girls in it, the production staff often used to refer to them as A-ko, B-ko, C-ko etc.), but Project Ako is still tons of fun. This is helped by a brilliant English dub as well.
NB: This is a region A Blu-ray, I had to watch it with a multi-region player to view it in Australia.
