A book I have always enjoyed despite major editing flaws. One could only hope that Silvey had lived to put his story and the knowledge and insights he delivers in the book about certain subjects to write a better book. The manuscript, which he wrote would've been better served with a good editor and more thought out sequencing. That being said, it is still a very good book with some truths in there that connect things which in some ways make sense and at times do not. As crazy as it all may sound at times it still makes a lot more sense Zodiac wise than any of the other books out there that were fabricated outright a la Robert Graysmith or the would be amateur investigators who shoot anything down that is different from their assumptions. There is something here.
I would like to see someone write about the Zodiac in a more comprehensive way, which to me has not been done yet. This book is not just about
people who may or may not have been responsible for the Zodiac crimes, but also the strange way of life things were in California at the time. Silvey led an interesting life, especially in the 1960's where nothing is that unbelievable with how the decade changed America for the worse. A great read regardless of how "out there" things may seem at times, but I firmly believe there are truths in here that have not been investigated thoroughly by others and should be. It is easy to dismiss things that differ from things that others have chosen to believe. Every now and then deep, dark secrets emerge with some hidden truths mixed in with some other stranger situations which seem crazy. This is one of those books. Assume away or look further. There may just be something here that hits you as it hit me.
