I have a library of about 500 occult titles and this is among the oddest of them.
Ida was bitten by the "who am I/what's it all about" bug at a very young age and her answers presented themselves in what she (mostly) believed were alien communications. The stuff was so odd and contradictory that many times she doubted all of it and its sources. But, since it seemed to take over her body and her thoughts, she had to explain it to herself somehow and ended up in the looney bin for a time. Who can blame her?
These beings consistently lied to Ida about who they were and where they were from, even at one point announcing that they were 3D human and living on earth; although another of her factions contradicted that. No wonder the lady went nuts.
These alien advisors led her on and on and on. Often blatantly lying to her; often lavishing praises upon her, then belittling her "behind her back" supposedly unaware that she could hear them. Strange, since she was implanted with their listening an watching devices in 1940 and they apparently had been aware of her entire life since then. (These guys sounded like true inner demons to me and usually insane, themselves.)
The information imparted to Ida as she desperately tried to get answers to her "Alfie" questions is a combination of stuff all harbingers of the future from other realms have relayed to humankind forever, just not imparted very well. As I scanned my many notes made while I read the book, I very often came across things like "Very fishy", "They're losing me fast", "Why doesn't she challenge them on this?", "What?!" And so on.
Ida, herself, admits that she has few answers after all the years of dealing with these experiences and in the end advises readers to find their own truth and answers. That's all any of us can do anyway, but if Ida Kannenberg had written that as her first thought instead of her last in this book, I'd probably have passed on this read. Still I'm not unhappy I plowed through it and I am still intrigued enough that I intend to read at least one of her other books. (Is insanity contagious?)
