Ariane Tucker lives by a set of rules, rules that her adoptive father expects her to follow. But what happens when the rules she’s lived by her whole life are rules she can no longer follow? The Rules by Stacey Kade is probably one of the best books I’ve read this year. First off let’s talk about how much I love Ariane. Her character is so well written and her conflict about the two sides of herself is incredibly prominent.
I really enjoyed seeing the struggle that she went through trying to be someone who she wasn’t, but wanted to be. Kade built such a strong world and her characters touched me as I read. Zane was another favorite of mine. His backstory was so well thought out and the more we learned about him the more I just wanted to hug him.
Zane and Ariane just made sense to me and I cannot tell you how emotional I got at the end of this story. I swear there were tears. I read this book super quick and was never once bored with anything happening. The plot was amazing and the twist, or rather twists at the end were epic. I didn’t see one of them coming until the last second and it absolutely broke my heart!
And then of course once my heart was broke there was this amazing scene between Ariane and her Father that totally made me get all teary eyed and emotional. There were so many hardcore villainous characters in this story too, and the great things about them is they were truly evil, no redeeming qualities whatsoever and I enjoyed that about Kade’s writing. When she set out to do something, she did it all the way.Read more ›
High school is hard enough to navigate, but when you're living a life of secrets, as Ariane has been, life itself is like walking a field full of hidden mines. Everything is going as well as can be expected in her predicament until her sense of justice and and her protectiveness get her in a bind.
While I loved that Ariane stuck up against the strong who preyed against the weak, it was a little off. She allowed her.....best friend......to undergo humiliating circumstances without coming to her aid-sure, she needed to be careful-one minute, then the next moment she almost blows everything over the same circumstance. Oooookay. Though little things like that-which will make more sense when you read the book-were off, I LOVED that Ariane stood up for the under dogs. Being a person myself who hates the kind of stuff she stood up to, I really loved that she was willing to risk everything to even the playing field.
Zane was a sweetheart-at least the Zane we meet. Having lived a hard life of his own he was perfect for Ariane. I just hope in book 2 their connection grows, because they make an amazing duo.
I loved this book. All aspects of it. I hope to learn more about Ariane's background in the sequel.
Read this book, don't wait like I did. If you enjoy books of an otherworldly nature, you'll love Project Paper Doll. I did, except for some editing mishaps.
To begin, we have our first main protagonist Ariane. She's part alien, part human and at the moment, she's just trying to fit in with High School. But more on that later. Ariane is an amazing MC. What I loved about her was how REAL she was! I was in her head. Her narrative is so emotionally gripping. You're going to be a part of Ariane and her story. All her ups and downs and FEELS AND FEELS and oh my goodness just so many feels. But even more than feeling her, her strengths and weaknesses are so prominent and visible. She's an actual person, and not just one of those flimsy teen girls full of angst and desire for romance. Ariane is smart, and so no stupid. She's ignorant and she isn't perfect. I adored the fact that Stacey was able to make her such a real and vibrant character. Oh I love her so much!
Okay. It is time to spazz over, the second and very delicious narrator if I do say so myself. ZANE. If you've seen any of my fangirling on Twitter after finishing this book, you will know that I absolutely ADORED Zane. Oh Zane. What can I say. For one, he's hot. We love hot romantic interests. And beyond that..? HIS BRAIN IS HOT. He's a fantastic additional narrator. Like Ariane, one of the most real characters I have ever read. No joke.Read more ›
