I bought one of these for a Scuba Trip to Key Largo. Originally I was going to purchase two, one for me and one for my roommate, but after reading the reviews decided on one and that if it was great once it arrived I would order another.

First of all the knife itself is attractive, has a hard plastic handle and the release worked well. We were thrilled with it and I gave it to my roommate to wear while were were diving.

The first day of diving went well, no problems with it. We got back to the hotel and soaked everything to get the salt off of it. The knife was washed in the sink and towel dried. The next morning the blade had started to rust. I was extremely disappointed in this fact, that after a single use the blade was rusted.

I did not end up purchasing a second knife.

For all the individuals out there that are complaining that this knife will rust, they are correct. Anyone that knows anything about knives knows that if you DO NOT TAKE CARE OF THEM, they will deteriorate. Dive knives need to be taken apart and rinsed in clean water, dried and a light sheen of oil applied, followed by a quick wipe down. In the amount of time that they took to complain about this knife, they could have accomplished the steps necessary to maintain it. My son and I are divers, have the same model of this knife for each of us and they look just as new as the day we received them. And this is after 30 dives, both salt and fresh water. Sometimes following simple directions actually works.

I bought this for my 13 yo who dives w me. He's been wishing for a "cool dive knife" and I awarded him with this one. He loves it and has used it several times. I have the same knife (size/make), but with a flat end; which I have since ground to a point, as the pointed end is more useful diving than the flat prying end. This knife handle, blade, locking mechanism and sheath are quality and have performed well, and can be disassembled. I dove saltwater w mine and left it uncleaned for a few days and it spot rusted (as most anything, whether SS or not, usually does in salt water if not rinsed after), but being able to take each piece/part apart allowed me to clean it back up. Never has corroded or rust in 5ish years of abuse diving in freshwater.

Great knife. It does need maintenance after each use in saltwater. It is not as forgiving as its counterpart made of Titanium, but it will keep its sharp edge much better. After every use, I just disassemble the knife and rinse it in fresh water. After that, I let it dry completely. Then, I apply a thin layer of "CorrosionX" and reassemble the knife. I follow the same procedure with my Titanium ones minus the "CorrosionX" part. So far, I am 100% satisfy with it.

I LOVE THIS. Husband bought it for me for when I ride my kayak... and I love it. Not to much pink but just enough to make it mine. I am a total knife person and this is awesome strapped to my shin. I used it for Halloween when I was dressed up as Batgirl... and man was it awesome. :) AWESOME GIFT HUNNY!!!!

So, when I selected black, the overview says "* Titanium blade * Titanium hammer on handle bottom * Quick release and adjustable straps * Easy disassembling for cleaning and maintenance * Requires little or no maintenance". However, the blade is not titanium at all. It is stainless steal and will require regular maintenance to keep it from rusting and even then will rust at some point. I'm returning mine.

The knife starts to rust only after a few dives in salt water. It rusts where the blade meets the handle. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this knife. It seems sharp. I haven't really cut anything with it yet. I just bought it for killing fish while spearfishing. I prefer to titanium medical shears when I'm not spearfish. They can cut steel fishing line and are very safe to use. Amazon sells them for $10. If you want a knife spend the money (over $100) and get a nice one.

The knife was sharp right when I got it. The problem I found was that there is way too much play in the sheath when locked in. On my second dive with this knife I went to grab it out and found it was gone. I hit the reef with my leg and the knife came out of the sheath. Needless to say I don't have this knife any more. Wouldn't recommend to anyone that is a real spearo.
