One thing the author knows how to do and does extremely well is to put forth a well-dressed setting, full of vivid details. And the words of Regi in Chapter Thirteen: "You're not doing much for my dieting plan," fittingly applies. I believe I actually gained weight by simply reading about the copious amounts of delectable dinners and desserts described among these pages!
The action begins amid the holiday bluster of parties, food, and seemingly endless chatter among family and friends, and somewhere within this flurry, a quiet love story begins to emerge. I understand this type of book is meant to be a cozy retreat, kind of like sipping cocoa beneath a snuggly blanket beside a flickering fireplace on a gray, rainy day, but I found the entire atmosphere of Friday Harbor almost creepy in a "Stepford Wives" sort of sense--Everyone was just too darn nice! Yet even this old die-hard reader of darkness and terror wound up a bit teary-eyed by the end of this quaint love story between the two mature main characters, a story as sweet as all the cupcakes they devoured.
life was in-store. With her only child in college she lives a lonely life. Here on the island she
makes so many wonderful and caring friends. When a crisis comes her friends come to her rescue. With this crisis comes a very important decision. A very inspiring book filled with hope, love and fulfillment.
