I seriously can't gush over A Promise Remembered enough. It's so beautiful. That ending...who doesn't love their HEA? We all want to find our place in this world with the one who is meant for us, anchored by love, and sheltered within our lover's safe embrace. For James and Rowen destiny has always brought them together but tragedy struck and tore them apart. This is their story, their refusal to give up and let each other go, their undying commitment to connect to each other across space and time. Soulmates...
The author has written and beautifully described this story from start to finish. I fell IN LOVE with this book and read it in one day, just couldn't put it down. I could go on and on but at this point, YOU NEED to READ it. 5 Amazing sexy heart pounding soulful stars! Highly Recommended!!!
What I love the most about Ms. Riley’s stories is that even though they’re about love, they’re never overly sweet or superficially romantic. On the contrary, her stories are always incredibly deep, with vivid, multidimensional characters, and with more than relevant issues that they face and eventually overcome. I highly appreciated the psychological depth of this story, in which two parallel worlds coexist miraculously, and in which an eternal question is raised: what if? What if a certain accident didn’t happen? What would happen to two soulmates if fate took a different turn? I must say, Ms. Riley got me so intrigued with this concept that I couldn’t turn pages fast enough to find out how it all was going to play out in the end.
Without giving away any spoilers let me just say this: read this book. You’ll fall in love with the characters and their stories and will enjoy every single page. Loved it! Five huge stars.
Erin Riley’s writing style is smooth and elegant. The story flows easily and naturally. The characters of Rowan, James and Belle are multilayered especially from a psychological and emotional perspective. The contrasting exploration of Rowan’s character and motives in the alternate realities is especially well done. Although the novel is the sixth in a series it’s a standalone, not requiring you to read any of the previous novels. Having said that, after reading this one, I’d like to read others in the series. I recommend this book to all lovers of fantasy and paranormal romance.
I do want to say I was worried about being biased as I don’t care too much for romances unless it is unique or it happens to be a romance within a different genre. I was pleasantly pleased with the outcome of this story. I can’t remember being this into a straight romance in a long time and it had enough twists to keep me reading. I really loved this book.
One thing that was a little upsetting for me, which is on a personal level, is that I felt Riley was limited in either the amount of content she was able to have or maybe the time frame in which she had to work restricted the details I know she is capable of rendering. The book didn’t start out very inviting, at least to my personal liking and when things started to get rolling it felt like she cut out a chunk, which is where I feel she was limited in comparison to reading her previous works, but the ending was great. On the edge of my seat great! Though I knew it would end on a typical romance level, it still had me wondering the outcome, which is really hard for an author to do since I have read so many romances.
Romances for me, have become too repetitive. There has to be out of the norm factors for me to even consider reading a romance, to begin with. Examples, two individuals going for one individual or some plotline that makes me question if it is truly a romance. Otherwise, I like a good drama or action that has romance thrown in, since a book that isn’t labeled romance doesn’t mean the romance will blossom.
In conclusion to my honest review, which she was going to get from me anyway, I really loved this book. It wasn’t Odin’s Sons great, but I loved it all the same. When Riley comes out with her next book/series I will be right on that bandwagon as well. This was a good book from a great author. If you don’t find this book to be to your liking or preference I would highly recommend her Odin’s Sons series, to which I always recommend to friends as a book referral.
Somewhere between a 4.5 and a 5 and I always round up.
