As I read, this story even though it is fiction, is just a powerful reminder that when we don't deal with trama/drama/our past, there can be serious consequences as we see with Travis' mother. The one thing I did have a hard time believing in the story was the fact that Travis' dad and his parents didn't force Ruth (mother) to report what happened to her and also make her seek counseling. They had the means to do so that one part of the story was hard to swallow. Other than that, this is a well written, clean (1-2 scenes but very little revealed) romance story that I enjoyed tremendously. However, it is also not a story that I would necessarily re-read and if I am completely honest, I like my romance stories to not have so much sadness in them. While you do indeed get a wonderful happy ending, getting there is drama, shock and sadness too.
Well done though....and I will definitely try another book by this author!
Char Chaffin is a masterful storyteller, and I look forward to reading her newest book.
I enjoyed the way the story takes its time building the relationship between Annie and Travis. I also liked the fact that even the "bad guy" (Travis's mother) had a compelling reason for hating the Turner family (even though it was no excuse for her behavior). At times I wished Travis was more assertive, and occasionally Annie's family seemed too good to be true. But since both main characters were so young, it was easy to see how they could make the mistakes they did. And their love was strong, helping them to overcome the difficulties they faced. This is a lovely story of two people who are meant to be together.
Sweet and satisfying with characters you cheer on and others you want to boo, this is a book you want to curl up with, a cup of your favorite tea by your side (and maybe a piece of pie), and enjoy.
I can't wait to read more by Ms. Chaffin.
Annie and Travis have a very romantic, lasting, and real love story. The secondary characters were well thought-out and delightful as well. A very enjoyable read.
On the whole a very good book.
Annie Turner is from a poor family and Travis Quincy is the only son of rich and powerful Ruth Quincy. They met and fell in love when they were just kids, but they knew some day they would marry. But for reasons unknown to them Ruth Quincy fiercely hated all the Turners and will stop at nothing to keep their dreams from happening.
It will take years to prove whether their love can stand the test.
