About the Author

R. C. Martin is a born and bred Coloradan. While she now resides in Virginia, her home will always be in the land of the Rocky Mountains, where she's left a piece of her heart and where her characters come to life. As a woman in love with love and filled with compassion for young women on a journey to find themselves in today's society, she aspires to inspire her readers to do more than settle. She hopes that her writing will remind or, perhaps, teach women that they are valuable and worthy of the best kind of love-the kind that is gentle, patient, faithful, passionate, all consuming, never ending, and leaves them breathless.

I'm very new to this author but can already tell that I'll be a loyal fan of hers forever. Her style of writing was amazing. She used just the perfect amount of drama, sweetness, hilarious banter between all of the friends and their boyfriends, acceptance, and unconditional love. And I loved how her characters are so real and have some baggage and flaws like normal people. This makes it so eay to relate to. This book is about a very close group of friends who each have their own unique and interesting story. There is Grayson the sexy, sweet, quarterback who loves his girlfriend Avery more than life itself. Now there are a few times in the book where you will find yourself hating his horrible mother as I do. The poor guy was just dealt a bad card when it comes to her as she does not do any motherly things for him ever. it is sad really but it also gives him the chance to grow and lean on his amazing friends and girlfriend. Avery is an innocent, kind, very genuine woman who is a twin to her sister Addison. I loved Addison the most for a few reasons. She is funny, sarcastic, sweet and thoughtful just wanting the best for everyone in her life. But she is dealt a bad card and has to go through some interesting adventures that drain her of most hope and energy she usually has until she learns to use this bad situation to her advantage learning and growing from it. I found myself quickly in her corner rooting her on as she is such a fun and real character. Now there are a few times in the book where you will find yourself hating horrible mother as I do. I knew I loved this book after only reading two chapters which is an excellent sign of a great book. The way each chapter focused on different characters' points of view was quite interesting, neat and fun to read. I truly wish more authors would do this.Read more ›

The Promises We Keep by R.C. Martin
Told from the alternating POV of four central characters, The Promises We Keep is a rollercoaster ride of the ups and downs relationships, new and old.
...young love, stupid love, crazy love- it isn’t something to simply wax poetic about, it’s something to grab hold of, something to step into, something to a ring.
Addison Grant has been happily in a relationship with her high school sweetheart for five years. As she prepares to enter into her final year of college, she’s ready for the next step. What happens if her other half isn’t so sure?
Avery Grant, Addison’s identical twin, has been pining after her friend, the star quarterback, but is unwilling to see that maybe he feels the same way about her.
Beckham Willis and Grayson O’Conner are as close as brothers, and are each in love with a Grant twin. Both are also plagued by fear- one of marriage, and the other of inadequacy. How can either get past the doubts weighing down their hearts?
Both relationships shift dramatically, forcing all four characters to closely examine who they are, what they want from life, and what they want from each other. When promises are made and promises are broken, can relationships be saved?
All four of these characters, as well as the supporting characters, were ẃell-developed. The themes of faith, family, and friendship were refreshing, enjoyable, and added to the message of the book. In order to keep the promises we make to each other, we must trust in God’s plan for us.
Overall, The Promises We Keep was very enjoyable. I would give it four stars, and believe that it would be best enjoyed by someone with a relationship with God, as religion is a very central theme.

5 stars for a beautifully written coming of age story. Young adult is usually not my thing ... Like at all! It's no secret I like my books steamy, hot, and super sexy.. But I love changing it up a bit... So I gave this a try. It's a very well written story about young love, heart break, new love, growing up and finding out what's meant to be. It's told in a 4-person pov narrative. It didn't distract me or bother me.. I loved being in their heads. It's obvious they they all have a love of god that is embedded deeply in this story and that guides this group of people into discovering themselves.

If you're looking for something on the sweeter side of life then check it out!

After reading Encore Worthy written by this author, I couldn’t wait to read more from this author. Where better to start than the first book?
The Promises We Keep is a long book and for me, it took a lot of concentration to stay with it. I think it was mostly because I was trying to follow so many characters, with the story being told in multiple POVs. I normally love a dual POV read and I especially enjoy the male’s side of the story, but I think over all this was just a little too much for me and something I might avoid reading in the future, or maybe not, because even with what I have said, that takes nothing away from this author’s ability to write a great book. She has a way with words and no matter if the story itself might not be what you would normally read, you just can’t help being pulled in and want to read more.
This book is clearly New Adult. It is a coming of age story that lets us into the lives of four characters, Beckham and Addison and Grayson and Avery. The book is very emotional and spiritual. It is very well written and once you start reading, you won’t want to stop until you reach the end.
I am moving on to book 2 in the Made for Love series because I want more from this author.
Keeping in mind that this book is somewhat religious and Inspirational, I recommend it.
