Where the Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker had a more restrained, accomplished rock sound, Florida's Lynyrd Skynyrd took another approach, evoking images of whiskey, Confederate flags, hard luck, and greasy dive bars in their music. The like-minded Molly Hatchet and .38 Special couldn't come close to matching the lyrical talent and natural-born rock-and-boogie abilities of Skynyrd. And, of course, no other band can lay claim to the most-requested song in the history of rock music, the anthemic "Free Bird," the focal point of this, their 1973 debut. Aside from spawning countless tomes of bad poetry by pockmarked 15-year-olds everywhere with "Free Bird," they demonstrated a mastery of the rock ballad with the time-tested "Tuesday's Gone," another highlight of this notable first offering. --Lorry Fleming

Sounds great and that's the most important thing!
Cons:
Doesn't look like the record shown on the ad, mines red with some splotching
Slightly warped
Other thoughts:
The album got to me overnight, that hasn't happened in quiet awhile.
I wasn't sure that I was going to be able to get the record out of its jacket, it was stuck...
The record was slightly bent when I pulled it out of its packaging (what's up Amazon?)
Other than the slight wobble in the record it plays well, and sounds great, isn't the reason to buy for great sound?
$25 is a bit steep though for a warped album, not returning it because it doesn't affect the play.
Top reviews from other countries
(pronounced leh-nerd skin-nerd) opens with "I Ain't That One" a solid southern rock number, but it's not until track two that the band really hit their stride sounding more like the Rolling Stones in their southern rock phase circa Sticky Fingers than the real Rolling Stones with the excellent mournful seven minute tear-jerking story of trains and lost love that is "Tuesday's Gone", a truly beautiful song. But before of the pain of "Tuesday's Gone" subsides it's quickly followed by the upbeat fun of "Gimme Three Steps" the story of a two-timing girl, her jealous man and his forty-four. The mournfulness however returns with "Simple Man" and I can't help but think of "November Rain" or perhaps "Civil War" and how this song wouldn't have been out of place in the Guns 'n' Roses catalogue.
Side two opens with "Things Goin' On" a country blues with a barrel-roll Chas & Dave style piano solo, and would have been the most disappointing track on the original eight track album if it hadn't been followed by the "Mississippi Kid" another [and slower] country blues and winner of the most disappointing track award . But the up-tempo action and guitar and piano sparks return for "Poison Whiskey" a fine solid southern rocker to warm you up before that song, and there's nothing more I can add, sit back and enjoy again those fretboard fireworks that make "Free Bird" so very memorable.
The bonus tracks include demos of "Tuesday's Gone, "Gimme Three Steps", "Three Steps", "Mr Banker" and "Down South Jukin'", the final versions of the first three being included elsewhere on the album while the latter two became the B-sides for "Gimme Three Steps" and "Free Bird" respectively with "Mr. Banker" sounding as though it could have been lifted from the Stones' early '70s catalogue and "Down South Jukin" rocking the joint southern style, neither of these would have been out of place on the album and IMO would have made a better start to side two than "Things Goin' On" and "Mississippi Kid", c'est la vie.
Recommended because there's far more to Lynryd Skynyrd than weird spelling, "Free Bird" and that plane crash.
Vinyl enthusiasts need not worry, as reissues go this is top notch, beautiful gate-leg outer and a nice lined inner sleeve completes a fine package.
