It's a well told love story with authentic characters which are likeable despite their imperfections. The book is very well written, with lots of banter and intelligent humour. I assume quite a bit of research has gone into the back story, which makes the book even a greater joy to read. I loved it!
This is (as usual from the author) an entertaining and intelligent read as Lark tries to unravel dastardly work deeds whilst falling for buttoned-up Channing.
As to the 'British-isms' I thought Ms MacGregor largely got those right although, having lived and worked in the US for some years, I would have expected Channing to have lost some of them...and I did spot one 'gotten' from her which we simply don't say! All in all though, an enjoyable read with both humour and feeling.
That said, if you dint mind that, it’s a good book, plot line really unlikely but you can go with it.
You may be surprised where this story goes. MacGregor's focus keeps us cheering for the main characters even when it looks like the rest of the world is closing in. Her great backstory, questionable friends and all the angst that goes with coming to terms with our lives and learning to live and work in different worlds lends nuance and detail to this original story.
An office affair, a new drug trial gone wrong, and the expensive and overreaching inheritance laws of Great Britain are the backdrop for this love story. This is not a coming out story. Like all of KG's work, these characters have real lives and careers to balance as they consider just where they want to be and who they want to be with. Sit back for a great read. Definitely worth 5 stars.
