Final edit, they lasted me about 8 months before the soles were worn to the point of letting water seep through. I did not see any paperwork about "lasting 1000 miles" and I have to cut them a little slack since I'm a big guy. But I'd be surprised if I walked 250 miles in 'em.
I have a spinal issue which prevents me from bending over and tying my shoes.
I didn't think these would be easy to put on, and if they were easy to put on then they weren't going to stay on.
I have never been happier about being wrong.
I recently bought my third pair of these shoes so I thought I would update my review. I still love the shoes (I'm on my third pair) though, honestly, I am a little disappointed in their longevity. Part of that problem is me, I suspect, as most shoes I buy wear out faster than I would expect. I thought these would last however as they seemed very sturdy and well made. Well, I think they are very sturdy and well made -- certainly, nothing was truly worn out -- the soles were in great shape and the shoe still looked good but that snug support I wrote about eventually went away and as I have some stability problems the shifting of the shoe on my foot presented problems.
With my latest pair, however, there is another problem which was not present in the first two pairs. When I tried replacing the standard insole with my custom orthotics, the extra thickness of the orthotics pushed my instep hard into the front of the foot-opening on the shoe which eventually resulted in a lot of pain in my instep. I don't know if this is an indication that dimensions vary from pair to pair somewhat more than I would think is reasonable, or if the design may have changed a little from the last pair I bought. At any rate, it is still a great shoe, and I will probably buy another pair when it is time to retire these.
