The Prophet: Deluxe Illustrated Edition Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 95 ratings

A special and deluxe illustrated edition of the inspirational, million-copy bestselling classic. The perfect gift for anyone journeying and questioning on the road of life.
Few books can be described as universal. And yet, The Prophet, by Lebanese-American author Kahlil Gibran, can only be described as that. Originally published in 1923, The Prophet is considered Gibran's masterpiece and is one of the most beloved spiritual classics of all time. Further cementing its status as a worldwide classic is the fact that it has been translated into over 100 different languages, making it one of the most translated books in history. Drawn from Gibran's own experience as an immigrant, The Prophet transcends generations, languages, and borders.
In this beautiful meditation on the meaning of life, Al Mustafa, the prophet, is about to board a ship back to his homeland after 12 years spent living in exile in the city of Orphalese. Before he departs, he is stopped by a group of followers who ask him to share his wisdom. In twenty-six poetic essays, Al Mustafa offers profound and timeless insights on various aspects of life and the myriad impulses of the human heart and mind. He offers lessons on love, marriage, children, pain, friendship, beauty, religion, joy, knowledge, reason and passion, time, good and evil, pleasure, and death.
A timeless spiritual touchstone, this gorgeously illustrated gift edition is perfect for graduating students, or for anyone searching for solace, peace, hope, and purpose in today's world.

Kahlil Gibran: full Arabic name Gibran Khalil Gibran, (January 6, 1883 – April 10, 1931) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and writer of the New York Pen League.

Kahlil Gibran was born in the town of Bsharri in the Mount Lebanon Mutasarrifate, Ottoman Empire (north of modern-day Lebanon), to Khalil Gibran and Kamila Gibran(Rahmeh). As a young man Kahlil emigrated with his family to the United States, where he studied art and began his literary career, writing in English and Arabic. In the Arab world, Gibran is regarded as a literary and political rebel. His romantic style was at the heart of a renaissance in modern Arabic literature, especially prose poetry, breaking away from the classical school. In Lebanon, he is still celebrated as a literary hero.

He is chiefly known in the English-speaking world for his 1923 book The Prophet, an early example of inspirational fiction including a series of philosophical essays written in poetic English prose. The book sold well despite a cool critical reception, gaining popularity in the 1930s and again, especially in the 1960s counterculture. Gibran is the third best-selling poet of all time, behind Shakespeare and Laozi.

The wonderful illustrations in this edition compliment The Prophet exquisitely. R. Black’s artistry and Kahlil Gibrans’s beautiful poetry blend together very well. I will be purchasing additional copies for gifts. A lovely book!!

In the 1960's I left for Europe with one book in my backpack. It was an earlier edition of this one. This new book went to my grandson as he leaves home. Happy trails.

I absolutely love the book itself and I shouldn’t be so bothered that it got roughed up during packaging/shipping. But since this was going to my boyfriend as a Valentines gift I wanted it to be in perfect condition. It’s not, and whoever packaged the items did a horrible job. Box is way too big and the book was packaged with a couple other things I ordered, it was just thrown in with a couple plastic bags that weren’t even inflated allowing everything to get thrown around in the box. Absolutely love the book itself, really really disappointed in whoever shipped this item. Do a better job, sincerely someone who loves books.
