Maybe it's the Italian name that makes it difficult to market to the masses (it's available at Bath and Bodyworks as a re-packaged CO Bigelow product). In any event, no living, breathing man should be denied the opportunity to indulge in this superb shaving product.

Though it might not get the kind of enthusiastic endorsement reserved for the higher-end English made creams from the discerning wet shaver/hobbyist crowd (shave geeks), Proraso is a quantum leap in quality compared to the canned stuff on the drug store shelf. For the uninitiated, a tube of Proraso cream is an excellent first step in the journey toward a vastly improved shaving experience.

Aside from the luxurious, cushioning lather one can make using a decent badger hair shaving brush (highly recommended), Proraso's strength is also its drawback. The cooling, tingling sensation of menthol and eucalyptus oil is a pleasurable experience for many, but harsh for those with highly sensitive skin (and noses). So be forewarned if you think you may fall into the latter category. Being in the former category, my experience with Proraso has been like a dream come true. Where Proraso really shines, though, is in the post shave; the moment after the last bit of lather has been rinsed away. A cold water rinse follow-up truly ramps up the invigorating pleasure of this cream...a bracing wake up call for those groggy, early morning shaves.

I disagree with the reviewer that said this cream is too expensive. If used correctly (with a shave brush), a pea-sized amount is all that's needed to produce an abundant lather. Nevertheless, the benefits of this highly recommended product far outweigh its cost.

One of my favorite shaving creams is this Proraso shaving cream. The 5.2 oz tube lasts a long time because you only need about 1/4 to 1/2" of the stuff to make a lot of rich, creamy and soothing lather. I let it sit on my beard for a minute or two before starting to shave and that gives the Eucalyptus and Menthol time to do their stuff... which means a nice refreshing and tingly feeling on the skin. When you're done shaving, rinse off face with cold water and you have just woken up. There is no strong after-scent which I also like, just a minimal clean-shaven scent. This is good stuff! Though it seems pricey, it does last a long time so I'd say it is really a good deal and the quality of the shave makes it well worth it.

Without question the best shaving product in my experience. Used with plenty of hot water, a double edged razor, and a brush (up and down strokes are best) and you can expect the closest, most comfortable shave ever. The scent is manly but not macho, and is very light in any case after you wash it off, and you don't need to use aftershave either. Wonderful.

If you use a brush, make sure to get a good badger hair brush (expect to spend anywhere from twenty to forty dollars for a decent but inexpensive brush that will last a decade or more.) Make sure to also get a brush stand like the Nickel Shaving Brush Holder to keep water from seeping into the handle, which shortens the life of the brush.

Proraso Shave Cream is the best bang for the buck in hi-end, non drugstore shave creams. I've tried them all and keep coming back to proraso. The texture, consistency and effectiveness of the cream are first rate - and you don't need a badger hair brush! I initially missed using a brush at first, but don't miss all the product I wasted that were left behind in the bristles. Couple proraso with a good safety razor (may I suggest Merkur) and you'll get a shave that trounces anything a Mach III can throw at you. Trust me.

I purchased the Proraso Shaving Cream because all of the reviews I had read and decided to give it a try. I have tried several of the cake style shaving soaps and just wasn't impressed with them too much of a hassle to whip up a lather and they didn't give the same shaving experience as the Proraso did. Just squeeze an almond size dollop into a bowl. Wet your shaving brush. Squeeze out excess water from the brush and you can have a lather whipped up in a few seconds. Add more or less water to the mixture to your liking. Everyone has a different opinion on how much lather they want or need. I myself just want a nice thin film. I am using a Merkur 180 razor with a feather blade. The results are fantastic. The shaving cream has a nice scent, lathers up quick without a hassle. My face felt great afterwards. No razor burn. This will be my go to shaving cream from now on.

This is an update to my review. I have found that if you add 3 to 5 drops of glycerin to the Proraso Shaving Cream in your bowl you will get Super Slick Lather.
Give it a try you will be amazed. You can pick up a small bottle of glycerin in your local discount store in the health and beauty aid section.

This is a new formulation of the classic Proraso shaving cream. I had tried the old version and foudn it left my face feeling dry. This product does not cause that. According to the packaging, the new formulation doesn't include SLS or parabens which according to some may cause cancer and or skin irritation (I don't know if those are valid claims but the absence of those products seems to help my skin feel more moisturized). I am very excited about this shaving cream and will continue to use it as part of my shaving ritual. I have formerly used Art of Shaving products which are decent but very expensive. For 1/3 the cost I can get a better and more comfortable shave! What can be better?
