Product Description

This Rock Pick Hammer is made for the beginner to intermediate rock hunter. This unit is durable and ideal for a mid-range, economical geology rock pick hammer.

There are no frills or hidden agendas with this item; it is made to take a beating and dish one out.

PLEASE NOTE: Although the label on the hammer says "20oz" they actually weigh 32oz or 2lbs. The lable is a misprint.

This is an awesome geology hammer/pick. I used mine in North Carolina mining for garnets. I was impressed by the way is cut into rock. The handle provides a good level shock absorption. I picked at a couple of veins of garnets and the tool held up.

I got what I paid for and a little more. This hammer is very sturdy although the steel could be a bit harder but for the price you can't beat it. If you are just a part time rockhound then this is the item to have.

Although this item was sold as a 32 oz hammer, they have a note on the description page that says it's mislabeled as a 20oz, but claims it's a 32 oz hammer. Problem is I ordered a 20 oz hammer along with it (his and hers for a quartz-collecting trip to Hot Springs, AR), which was $10 cheaper, and the two are EXACTLY THE SAME. I got it the day before our trip, so I had to use it. Both had expected wear for how we used them, but the handle started slipping off on this one. Save yourself some $$ and get the one from Amazon LLC that's labeled as a 20oz.

Nice hammer I didn't get a chance to give it a good workout on the dig we went on but it felt balanced. I think it would hold out to a good banging. The reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because I didn't get to use it much and I couldn't judge how it would hold up on a good workout.

It is a piece of steel that works well despite being poorly made. The grip is harder than it should be. The main thing I find a little cheezy is that the surface is not machined or polished. Why go through the trouble of making something just to make it half way. Just a little more work and it could be perfect. This minor imperfection in no way effects the hammers performance but I have to deduct 2 stars for quality because it just looks shoddy and I wish the grip was more comfortable.
