The Prosperous Author well help you in taking those first steps, the most important ones, to WRITING THAT BOOK... Drawing inspiration from her own experience as well as other successful authors, Cassandra Gaisford has broken down the mindset techniques needed to become a successful author and make a living from your writing.
Two stars - I did not like it. Why? Primarily, because there was far too many quotations and references to what other people have said.In fact it seemed that whole chapters were built on quotations from other authors and New Age gurus with very little text between. When I read a non-fiction book I am looking for the authors unique contribution and I expect the actual references to other people be kept to a minimum. My second objection is that I expected the focus to be on "productivity hacks" (which the subtitle promises) and hopefully find some new ideas to try out, but instead the focus seemed to be on encouraging wannabe writers to find the courage to write. (Well, that is not my problem...) This is the first book I have read by Ms Gaisford. I am glad I got it when it was free as I did not learn anything new or useful from it.
Well, upon starting to read this I was rather unpleasantly surprised, given all the positive reviews. I was not expecting the first 20-30 pages to read like a kind of repetitive infomercial, and to find typos, misspellings, and sometimes grammatical errors on nearly every page (at least in the Kindle edition). Written in a rather sloppy way. I understand that part of her message/strategy is trying to produce work quickly (I guess) in order to produce more work and make more money, but it is rather disheartening to read a book on writing that is so poorly written. Once I get to the end of the tips, maybe my mind will change, but my initial impressions from reading the first 10 or so short chapters are not particularly good.
This book is packed with productivity tips and insights for writers. I enjoyed learning how some of the most successful writers on earth plan their day as well as how they think. Feeling inspired, I’ve already decided to implement concrete changes in the way I work to increase my productivity. I also enjoyed the "mining for gold" section and the numerous examples of famous writers. If you're a writer in need of a productivity boost, check it out.
As a regular purchaser of Cassandra Gaisford's books, I'm stunned how well she makes these subjects come to life. In this book, she walks the talk by sharing stories of how she has been able to establish her own prolific writing career. She is an inspiration.
My aspiration is to become a skilled content writer. This is one of the most useful advice I've found which I'm already putting to work. And I haven't even finished reading it yet!
The Prosperous Author is a blueprint for success. Cassandra Gaisford has crafted a well-rounded collection of productivity tips, wisdom, and practical advice. This book offers the mindset revolution I needed to get on with my writing!
Each chapter in the book contains practical tips, wisdom from successful authors, and thought-provoking questions. I will be opening this book and flipping to various chapters whenever I need a pick-me-up.
The chapter called, "Become Audaciously Obsessed" is brilliant!
