Did you know that every bed needs a Protect-A-Bed Pillow Protector? FACT: Every night the human body loses a liter of body fluids through the skin pores and mouth, as well as millions of skin flakes. Unprotected mattresses thereby create the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and dust mites (a major cause of asthma, eczema and rhinitis). You can control this by fitting a Protect-A-Bed AllerZip Mattress Protector, which is also especially helpful in cases of incontinence. This waterproof pillow protector zippers to secure in place and its cotton, terry-cloth fabric top layer is soft and comfortable to sleep on. Guaranteed against leaks or tears for 10 years or the factory will replace at no cost. (Queen Pillow Size: 21x31 in.) Wash before use for best results. Do not bleach or dry clean. This AllerZip pillow protector is also guaranteed bed bug entry, escape and bit proof. There are two pillow protectors in this pack.

Here's the thing. I bought different pillow protectors without paying any attention to the fact that the zipper leaves a little gap of space when it's zipped up. I don't know if you've seen the sort of places bed bugs like to sleep, but that hole in the crap ones is cavernous by comparison. The cheap ones are also kind of crinkly to sleep on (like sleeping in a gift bag).
The Protect-A-Bed products, on the other hand, have engineered a zipper that closes completely. I mean REALLY closed. So secure, in fact, that any air trapped inside the case once you've zipped it up will remain there. It's funny the first night you sleep on a pillow of air, but I recommend making sure the excess air is out before you seal it up. (Leave enough air in there that your pillow is comfy, though. Air will similarly not get in.) Totally manageable design annoyance.
The other minor design annoyance is that the case is about 5" longer than my pillows. Pretty sure I don't just have abbreviated pillows, it's just extra long. Better too big than too small, right? I haven't figured out how best to deal with it (fold it and tape it down? just leave it hanging out?), but it's a little annoying. Especially since the terry is so thick and sturdy. This is not a deal breaker. It's still leagues above the alternatives.
Minor annoyances aside, I still say BUY THESE, NOT THE CHEAP CRAP! You'll only buy it once, as opposed to a half dozen times with the cheap ones, and the protection level is way better. Trust me.
(Note: The mattress protector is awesomesauce, without the same issues.)
If you are spending fifty to a hundred dollars on your pillows (and a lot of people do) you might want to think about protecting them. It's not only the bugs that it protects you from, it also keeps your pillow clean and safe from dirt and grime. Well worth the cost.
