Levi is back home and when he runs into Harper, things are a bit rocky to say the least. Harper is on a personal mission to uncover the real story and reason behind her brother's death. And it seems to be ruffling a few feathers around town too, because she begins getting death threats after she starts her investigation into everything.
I really enjoyed this book and would LOVE a personal Levi of my own. Sigh. Who doesn't want someone to take care of them and protect them? Harper doesn't apparently. That was the one thing that was a struggle for me within the book. Harper was so SO adamant and against Levi stepping in and trying to protect her from the obvious danger she was in. I wanted to shake her! She was in her own darn way the entire stinking book! However, her stubbornness definitely made me want to read faster so that I could read the moment she FINALLY got out of her way, and Levi was able to show her that needing someone some times is OKAY.
I loved the book and the emotion that Samantha and Noelle were able to bring out through out. I cannot imagine losing someone so dear to me at war. The ultimate sacrifice. They did a great job of showing the struggles that vets go through when adjusting to civilian life again, and how it isn't always a seamless and easy transition for them. Loved the book!
Harper is an independent woman who lives to find out and follow through with whatever project she is currently on. However, she is extremely stubborn and doesn't really care about others' opinions and doesn't think of others' motives. She is pretty much self absorbed. Selfish as can be really. So when her brother dies in combat she makes it her mission to get the truth out. She feels like there is way more to the story than what she is told.
Levi is Harper's brothers best friend. Has been for more than half his life so he feels it is his duty to take care of Harper while she is on her "mission". He is way more level headed and sees what she doesn't. The danger that she is putting herself in. He tries to be the voice of reason but of course Harper doesn't care. She thinks that he is being an overbearing jerk.
All they do is argue. It really is one sided though; Harper's side. So when it comes to their romance it doesn't fell smooth and natural. It seems like Levi's feelings for her is what is keeping them together more than anything.
Levi is the only saving grace in this. He is a kind, caring, alpha male who thinks of others more than himself. He sees and knows what needs to be done and he does it without much complaint.
While I wish some stuff was answered I did enjoy the story itself.
Levi has been attracted to his best friend Gavin's little sister Harper, since he was a senior in high school. But she was forbidden. Twelve years later he was standing across from Harper and her parents with a grave between them, Gavin's. They had both signed up in the Marines. Only now, they were all home, injured, broken, defeated and burying their best friend. Gavin and Levi met and became close friends with Sebastian, Declan, and Cole.
Harper Murphy was mad at losing Gavin. Always being one to take on causes, she was determined to get to the bottom of what had happened to her brother. As a reporter Harper had the perfect job to bring attention to her causes, even the wrong type of attention. So when random acts of vandalisms and attempts to hurt Harper start happening, Levi knows he must do everything he can, to protect his best friend's sister. As Levi tries to keep her safe, emotions, attraction and desire are like a unstoppable force drawing them together.
Will Levi's protection be enough to save Harper? Will Harper and Levi find love? You will have to read to find out.
