Money and privilege can’t buy everything and she’ll have to prove herself to win his affection.
Julie Lytle is working hard to turn her life around. Being kidnapped by sex traffickers changed her drastically, but having grown up the spoiled daughter of a senator, Julie wishes she could’ve changed just a little sooner. Shamed by her behavior toward the woman rescued alongside her, and further embarrassed and guilt-racked over the way she treated the SEALs who risked their lives on her behalf, Julie is desperate to make amends.
With help from a D.C. acquaintance who’d endured her own harrowing experience, Julie connects with Patrick Hurt, Commander of the SEALs who’d saved her life. If she can prove she’s not the same person who mistreated his team, he’ll grant her request to meet them—but not before the protective, sexy man makes a surprising request of his own.
**Protecting Julie is a part of the SEAL of Protection Series. It's book 6.5 in the series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.

There is a reason Susan became one of my favorite authors after I first read Protecting Caroline, book 1 in the series, and this book is another brilliant example of why. She made us hate Julie in one book, then fall in love with her while crying right along with her and cheering as she finds love in this one. That, my fellow bookworms, takes natural talent which she has in aces, (ha inside joke from the series) err, spades. It's why I have devoured every book with her name on it and absolutely loved all of them.
So Julie has really grown since she was kidnapped and almost forced into sex slavery, along with Fiona. While she wasn't there as long as Fiona, she did indeed endure a horrific time with her captors. She knows she was absolutely horrible to Fiona and her rescuers and now wants to thank them for saving her and apologize for her behavior. She meets with Zane (shout out to Cat Johnson's SEAL series) and his girlfriend, Missy, who is a friend of Julie's, and tells her story. Zane sees she is sincere and gives her Tex's number. Tex! Tex! Tex! He knows everyone. LOL She then talks to Tex and is given Patrick Hurt's number, the guys' commanding officer. They talk, they meet, there's an attraction and he asks her out. Ooh yeah, that could get awkward. Does it? Does she meet the guys and apologize? Does she meet Fiona? If you're as addicted to this series as I am, you are dying to know Patrick and Julie's story. Read it!!! You'll love it and want to buy me presents as a thank you. While I appreciate the thought, no presents are necessary. LOL Happy reading!!!
Ms. Stoker’s writing style is quite entertaining. She is a master at creating complex characters both primary and secondary allowing readers to connect to them. For instances, I quickly knew that I liked the new Julie and Patrick. I applaud her decision making her plot them one of woman versus self. Her use of rich dialog, along with descriptive language showcasing Julie’s emotional journey to salvation and healing. These literary devices allow her plot line to flow smoothly. Way to go, Ms. Stoker!
Patrick makes no promises but agrees to meet her. Once Patrick meets Julie and listens to her describe her experience he sees a different person from the person his team described after the rescue. Patrick agrees to connect Julie with his team if she agrees to go out with him. He is drawn to her and wants to get to know her better. But before Patrick can arrange a meeting between Julie and the SEALs a chance encounter happens with Fiona and the other SEAL team women. It does not go well.
Compassion and thinking of other first opens the door to love, redemption and forgiveness.

However, SS is clearly much more forgiving than I which results in this actually being a great story. And it does somewhat redeem Julie as much as I may or may not resent that fact.
The bit I do love is Hurt getting his HEA after being such an integral part of so many of the stories previously.
Appearances from the other characters in this series round it out well as they are always fantastic to read and as much as I wanted to not enjoy this book there is the normal sign of satisfaction at the end of this book synonymous with an SS book concluding exactly as it should
I had to though otherwise I wouldn’t have read the full series and I was pleasantly surprised.
I kind of wanted to hate Julie but I couldn’t after reading her book. I actually felt sorry for her which is a testament to the great writing.
Thanks Susan for another great book
