Editorial Reviews

Review

  • "This book represents why I love books, and the power of the written word, in general. This book is a must-read if you like well-developed fantasy characters, smart plots, great writing and smoldering romance. It really hits on all of these aspects, making it the perfect read.
The plot is complex and engaging, with the perfect amount of intrigue to keep the pages turning (and turning...I couldn't put it down until I read to the end - I read this in one shot, staying up into the night!). But, it's really the romantic relationship within the story that I found most compelling. To try and avoid spoilers, I'll just say that it's truly unique, and consists of so many psychological and emotional facets, it's a complex and intriguing dynamic that is not to be missed." - Gina Balogh
  • I won a copy of this book
Finn has an evil man after her and her friends have put her into hiding. Luckily for her, her friends are cops. With very little memory of her ordeal at the hands of The Ripper, she has little to offer a stumped police force. There are many twists and turns in this story. Just when Finn thinks she has a handle on her situation, life throws another monkey wrench at her. Very well written characters who will delight you mind and take you on a wild ride. - Annette Snugglebooks
  • Oh my goodness, this book has it all. Intrigue, suspense, romance with a touch of the erotic. It certainly keeps you reading. The love aspect is surely every woman's fantasy - who knew it was mine, but after reading this I do envy Finn! Hope there is a sequel as I would love to follow this romance .... Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Linda P.

About the Author

Wife and mother to four demanding teenagers, D.S. Williams started writing at the age of five, when life was simpler and her stories really didn't have to make much sense. When you're five, happily ever after always ended the story and how you got there didn't matter so much.

Older and wiser, D.S. Williams has continued to write... and write... and write. With the support and encouragement of her husband and friends, she has finally come to the conclusion that she can't keep hiding from the world forever and should try sharing the numerous novels which have been written over the past 40+ years.

D.S. Williams enjoys writing (obviously), reading (voraciously) and making lists (obsessively). She's enjoyed a lifelong addiction to foods starting with 'ch' - cheesecake, chocolate and chips - and when it comes to books, she loves a really good cliffhanger. Be warned!

She shares her life with her husband of twenty eight years, the Gang of Four and the current furry residents, Tuppence the Groodle and Angus the Bull Mastiff.

I received a free copy from the author for an honest review, but if I hadn't...hell, I'd have bought it anyway. The description alone intrigued me no end.

I'd heard all sorts of rumours - from ménage to paranormal to detailed psychological research - and when there's a serial killer on the loose, I was almost afraid of what that might mean.

I'll give you no spoilers, so you'll have to read it yourself to find out how steamy the intimate scenes get and with whom, not to mention the chilling view from inside the mind of a serial killer as well as his victim. It's really hard to write this review without spoilers, though...because there are so many little mysteries that draw you deeper into the book as you read.

The detailed plot kept me guessing - if you want a book that spells out the whole story in the first chapter, this isn't it. The serial killer's identity was as much a mystery to me as it was to Finn - until it wasn't, of course. One of the many reasons that I couldn't seem to stop reading this one once I'd started. I just had to get to the end to find out who and what and whether Finn found love...

Five stars. Undoubtedly.

This book kept me captivated from the first paragraph on. I loved the writing style, the way with words, the plot, and the colorful cast of characters. Everything about this book is out of the box and makes for a riveting read. Even the family pet is unique. If you're looking for a romantic thriller with many layers, I highly recommend.

The first chapter describes the house Finn was to live in, and how the friendship between Finn, Bryan and Ash began. The story started to unfold immediately and had me in its grip including my fondness for Shep.
It’s a good feeling when things go bad and your closest friends gather around you to help and protect. When I started to read how Shelby, Ash and Caleb surrounded Finn to help her it made me realise how lucky I was also to have friends in my life like that.
Finn had to escape her new location when the Ripper found her and would rather die than let the Ripper take her again. The question was how was he able to find Finn when only her friends knew where she was?
It is hard to believe that someone you have known for years was a werewolf, with explanations come understanding and you learn to cope. As the relationship between Finn and Caleb builds up so does the tension if the Ripper will find her again.
As I continued to read the book I suddenly realised what type of being the Ripper was after Finn drank the ‘Pono Toniki’ and went through her kidnapping as if she was back in the cave. Ginny and Channing also realised what the Ripper was as Finn told her story.
The twist at the end was brilliant. The way D.S. Williams took us back to centuries past and brought it all back to current times explained it all.

I was lucky enough to receive an A.R.C. of this but that doesn't colour my review in any way.
★★★★★
Oh wow, this book is so different from anything I have read before.
Our heroine Finn has been rescued from the clutches of a vicious serial killer, at the expense of her brother's life. The heart ripper has killed many prostitutes, but Finn is not his usual target. Add to that he kept her far longer than his other victims. Finn has P.T.S.D. and can't remember anything about what the man looked like. Everything happened in total darkness. She is physically and mentally wounded. Her friends have gathered round and decide to hide her away to make sure the killer will never find her again.
Caleb has known Finn and her brother for years, and has always treated Finn as a little sister. Her friends leave her in a hideaway with a wolf as protection. Finn has a very traumatic time ahead of her. Her belief in her own sanity will be pushed to it's limit.
I loved this book. The heroine is faced with so much it's a testament to her strength that she is not a gibbering wreck. Caleb and Rafe are such typical Alpha males . Doing their best to protect but constantly pissing her off. They are werewolves and are used to sharing everything, even their thoughts. The killer has been robbed of his prey, and will not rest until he gets her back.
This book is loaded with sexual tension, but no sex scenes. There are some very uncomfortable memories. The emotion of all the characters is the strongest part of the story. You can really relate to Finn trying to understand everything and everyone around her, and trying to recover from her ordeal. With the killings still happening Finn wants to help identify the killer.
I want to read much more about all the characters in this story. I think I see a potential relationship building between two of the secondary characters.
