I have had pretty unpleasant experience with scratching up watch glass surfaces. Darn those clumsy fingers, I usually say but really it’s kind of frustrating and so when I bought a fairly expensive watch, I didn’t want to take a chance so I decided to buy those clear films on Amazon.
The first purchase I had only provided limited coverage and was literally a waste of money. The Apple Watch has curved edges that are part of the display that can easily get scratched and/or damaged and that made me worrier than ever.
After being frustrated with those, I’ve venture to look for another screen protector- something that would really provide full coverage and excellent protection. Then, I’ve came across Skinomi Tech Skin screen protector for the Apple Watch 3mm(6-pack). I decided to purchase it and give it a try. I’m glad I did.
Skinomi Tech Skin screen protector is a “wet install” type of film and I like the fact that it comes with a spray solution bottle. The spray solution spells a lot of difference. The solution makes the protector easy to glide/slide and position across the device and I didn’t have to worry about getting the protector on “just right” the first time, which somehow makes the installation a breeze. They also have great YouTube video on their website to guide you to a successful install.
Noteworthy, Apple Watch has curved edges and it can be tricky to get this film to stick to the edges. Here’s what I did. I allowed the screen to sit on my device for about 5-10 minutes before using my finger to press down the edges to get them to stick on to the curved edges of the screen. By allowing the screen protector to sit flat on the watch and allowing the edges to dry a bit to get tacky, it really helped to get the edges to stick to the curved area of the screen. If the screen protector is too wet, it will not stick to the edges. I did this and it went on perfectly the first time, which means I have (5) extra protectors.
Since mine went well the first time, I decided to use an extra one to test its durability on a business card. I used a sharp knife to try to scratch the paper and it didn’t work. The protector kept a very fragile paper card safe. The knife however left minor indentations on the protector that came out after few hours. Technically, it “healed” itself so to speak.
Overall, I’m highly pleased with this product and greatly recommend it. In addition to being much easier to install, it does not leave that “orange peel” look. The watch face is crystal clear and it’s very hard to tell that a protector film is even on. My watch is totally protected and this protector allowed me to feel confident wearing my watch daily without worrying about getting the glass scratched.
