There were things that I liked about the story. I liked the hot sexy times and there were plenty of them. I liked that Kieran felt and acted jealous, possessive and protective towards Gabrielle. I liked that they were faithful to each other after getting together. He stopped having smex with OW quite awhile prior to them getting together and she was a virgin.
There were things that I did not like as well. The heroine totally lacked a spine. She was a complete doormat. She left herself be abused and did nothing to stand up for herself for years. In fact, it took Kieran to save her. I had very little respect for her.
I did not like that it took them so long to get together and if something that did not happen that hero accidentally became involved in they probably never would have because neither was willing to make a move even thought they supposedly had been pining over each other for five years and she had been pining over him since meeting him.. It took them about 7 years to get together after meeting. She was in her twenties and near graduating college when they did. Why have them wait so long? I understand that they waited awhile for her to grow up but that had happened years prior. Having two characters pining for each other for many years and doing nothing about it because they were scared always annoys me.
Also I do not understand why the author did not have Kieran stop having smex with OW after meeting the heroine. He had been celibate quite awhile, around five years prior to them getting together. Prior to that he was a self-admitted playboy and there were brief flashbacks of him thinking about OW and the sexual times they had. What was wrong with the hero stopping the manhoe behaving as soon as he met the heroine as opposed to 2 years later? What did it add to the story to have him continue to use other women like Kleenex for 2 more years? Was it necessary to have him reminiscing about the times that he had OW including bjs? It was a turn off for me that he was not celibate after meeting the heroine and reading those flashback scenes. I particularly disliked the heroes remembering when he saw the heroine doing something cute and then a short time later was receiving oral pleasure from OW who he didn’t know her name at a rave. Why was that scene necessary? It wasn’t and it detracted from my enjoyment of the story. If it was heroine’s age then they could have met when she 17 years old as opposed to 15 years old. The hero stopped having smex with OW when she was 17 years old and supposedly noticed and fell in love with her when she was 19 years old. Also it irritated me that she had not even kissed OM prior to sleep with the hero when she already in her twenties. It was neither realistic nor desirable considering how sexual the experienced the hero was. I hate when there is such sexual inequity. How will she know that the heroine is the one for her if she never even kissed OM?
Also the story was too long and went off the rails. It was like riding the crazy training that would not stop at a station. The evilness of so many characters was OTT and the things that kept happening in the story were not believable. It reminded me of a soap opera mixed with a Jerry Springer show. It made the story drag and during the last ¼ of the book I was skimming as opposed to reading.
When Kieran Kincaid first met Gabrielle Thornton, it was on. There was something about the timid and quiet younger woman that called to him but biding his time for three years. He waited and when opportunity arose, he made it his mission to get his girl. Gahhh this novel was fantastic. While it might have been a little insta-esque between them, their chemistry was explosive and could not be denied. All in all this novel had drama, secrets and suspense that kept me on my toes and was all together dark and delicious - all qualities expected in this author's work! Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula
Kieran Kincaid has attended Sunday dinner at the Thorton's for seven years but never realized the real reason for Gabby's shyness even though he has loved her, and not her parentally adored sister, for three years.
The chemistry between Kieran and Gabby is off the charts. The story is engrossing and well paced and the cast of characters includes heroes and villains alike. The writing is good but there are dozens of sometimes hilarious editing mistakes with wrong words that totally change the meaning.
