Long story short, it was just what I needed. Installing the disk(s) was a snap. Pull the enclosure apart, plug the disk in, slide it back in and two screws hold it shut. I then plugged the enclosure into my Windows machine and Windows 7 found the proper drivers. Then I was on to the Disk Manager and reformatting.
One thing I should mention--everything you need for this operation is inside the box. The enclosure, the power cable, the screws (even extra drive screws, if you lost yours), an appropriate screwdriver (a great addition!) and the proper USB cable. Initially I missed the USB cable and thought I had to buy my own. But a quick email to the Jacobsparts seller and I realized the cable and screwdriver were included as well. (It pays to look everywhere in the box! :))
Like another reviewer mentioned, the enclosure does get a little warm with long use. (My reformatting operations took multiple hours.) There is no fan, so the heat has to dissipate through the enclosure itself. I found that the heat issue was much less an issue if the enclosure was stood on its side, though. (More surface area exposed to the air, means more heat dissipation.)
All said, this is a good enclosure at a great price. Extra kudos to the Jacobsparts folk for including everything, and for being responsive to emails. Give their products a try!
The case would not allow a standard Seagate drive to screw into the enclosure with the front on. I had to remove the front, then screw the hard drive to the enclosure then as I was trying to place the front on I realized the USB slot would not accept a USB cable, I had to bend it to fit the cable in.
Once it was all together & bent into place, it seemed to work. I will be using it as a 2nd back up of footage. If I come across any other issues I will update the review.
I just ordered this case late on Wednesday night. It arrived today (Saturday) in the mail. It did not come with any directions, but I had an easy time getting it put together. There are only a couple screws and a plug to hook in the old drive. It took maybe ten minutes. It fit well in the case, and I used the enclosed screwdriver and screws to secure the drive inside. Then I plugged in the power, hooked the USB to my new computer, and opened K Drive which held all of my photos and documents!! I have now moved them to the new computer and am back where I was before the crash. I even moved my favorites to the new computer so I don't have to re-build them again. Once I'm sure I have all of the data I want off this drive, I plan to clear it out and use it as a backup external drive. I am very happy with this hard drive enclosure. It works, and it's affordable. I recommend it highly.
I expect within the next 6 months one of those wires will get a kink or snap off and I won't be able to use the enclosure at all.
Not worth the hassle IMHO. I will think twice before buying a rock-bottom budget brand like this in future.
After a week with my friend, they still have no complaints to report about it. =)

The enclosure works fine, but is cheaply constructed – you get what you pay for, I guess. The big issue is that the power cord does not plug in securely, so if the drive is jostled... Read morePublished on February 9, 2013 by Steven
