I'm truly sorry that this book wasn't all I hoped it would be but I must honestly recommend looking elsewhere for insight into the Proverbs 31 wife.
I will be giving this book to all my friends as a wedding gift. This is a must have of all wives and mother, any age and amount of time married. Everyone can receive a blessing from the inspired words written in it. Would highly recommend to any women.
Sometimes we read Scripture and it seems so old fashioned and out of date that we ignore what it is saying, but Lara Velez has a gift (which I firmly believe is from God) that allows her to be able to take those words and transform them into a deeper, more timely, understanding that we can all relate to. She's written the handbook verse by verse, explaining what it all means and how we can bring it into our own lives no matter what our circumstances.
This is a very powerful and useful tool for every wife out there and I think anyone who gets it will be blessed in their reading and study of it. I know that for me personally it has really opened my eyes and made me want to be the wife that God made me to be - not just in words, but in actions. My Husband deserves it.
I would have loved to hear the author talk about ways to become the best wife you can be by working with your spouse and doing things that promote the best for each other. Her views seem to promote the idea that women work for their spouse as opposed to with their spouse. The latter would have been more balanced.
The author of this book suggests things like "wear make up" and "have sex when he wants to." Make up and sex are not a cure all for marriage. These seem like worldly things to suggest to a Christian woman. There is nothing wrong with wearing make up or having sex, but she seems to feel that it's a wife's duty to bow to her husband's every desire. The thing is, marriage is about two people serving one another. Sure, compromise sometimes. But she makes it seem as if it's always the wife's duty to compromise.
Regarding cleaning the home, she says "If your husband is not helpful and does not feel obligated to help you, it is still YOUR job to manage the home." Both spouses should manage their home and split their daily tasks in whatever way they like. She is assuming every marriage is set up the exact same way. A book geared toward women about marriage should have principles that apply to all Christian women in marriages, regardless of the way responsibilities are split.Read more ›
The author really shows enthusiasm for being a "Proverbs 31" wife and I am so glad that I found this handy resource. I also love her "Fruit of the Spirit" Series which are small bites of devotions that I am loving!
Keep up the great, motivating work. I look forward to more of what the author brings forward this year!!
