Review

Kane is memorable enough that I am still thinking about him 2 weeks and half a dozen books later. He is an incredibly dedicated lover, and his combination of meticulous attention to detail and raw force of personality makes for some smokin' scenes between him and Amber. -- GraveTells Reviews

I really enjoyed Kane and Amber's story.  AAAhhhhh Kane Kayrs. The smart brother, the brother with all the answers. The know it all brother. Well Kane just met his match in the form of a very feisty female. -- Books-n-Kisses Reviews

5 Star Review - I love how Amber twists up the stoic and logical Kane...All I can say is, I need more! Please write faster! -- EbookObsessed Reviews

Thanks for taking a look at PROVOKED!  Here's one of my favorite quick blurbs from the book:

Kane peered down at her. "Amber?"

"Yes?"

"If you're going to attack with whatever's in your right hand, could you hurry it up? We need to get going."

She started, her gaze slashing up to him. "How did you know?"

He shrugged. "What kind of a knife do you have?"

Her cheeks pinkened, and she drew her hand forward. "I have a pen."

A blue ballpoint pen. He blinked twice, his gaze on the harmless tool.

Maybe it was the ridiculousness of the pen. Maybe it was the woman's courage in planning to use it on him. Or maybe it was the sheepish half-smile she gave.

Either way, his heart rolled over.

Warmth flushed through him, so hot, so fast, his ears rang. His mind blanked. For the first time in centuries, his brain shut off. The woman was crazy. Stepping in, he grasped her chin, tilting her head back.

Her eyes widened, and then her gaze lowered to his lips. A soft sound of surprise emerged with her breath.

He dove in, allowing the animal within to awaken. For the first time in three centuries, there was no thought. All instinct ruled as his mouth took hers...no finesse, no calculation, just pure, raw need. He shoved her against the truck, his other hand clutching her hip as he went deeper.

Honeysuckle exploded along his taste buds as his tongue swept inside her mouth. Not gentle, not persuasive, just taking. Claiming.

And it wasn't enough. Not even close to enough.

Pressing into her, body to body, heat to heat, something clicked. Beyond his brain, beyond his body...somewhere deeper.

Finally, he found home.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Associate Reviewer - Mich M:

We rejoin the Kayrs brothers four years after the events in Consumed.

Kane is the midddle Kayrs brother and he's always seemed very straight laced, he's a scientist and if he can't measure something in a lab then it doesn't exist. However he is a Kayrs afterall and that means he is a trained warrior, his idea of fun is to hunt down werewolves. When Kane is charged with finding the Demon Destroyer there is a lot at stake. His baby brother, Jase was captured by the demons almost four years prior and has been tortured daily, they have no idea if they will find him alive or if his mind will survive. They need the Demon Destroyer's help to save him from captivity. When Kane finally tracks the Demon Destroyer down she is nothing like what he expected.

Amber is nearing the end of her shift at the bar when she feels someone watching her, she fels an instant attraction to the stranger but when he opens his mouth and starts talking about vampires and demons she thinks he belongs in the loony bin.

Can Kane win Amber's trust? Can the fiesty Amber get Kane to loosen up an believe in the unmeasurable?

I thorughly enjoyed this book, I loved seeing Kane so out of sorts when faced with Amber. She was perfect for him. My heart broke for Jase, he's been the Kayrs brother that has intrigued me from the start, I can't wait to get to know him better. The triangle between Janie, Kalin & Zane is really starting to get interesting. Now that Janie isn't a litte girl anymore. Their story is what the whole series is building for and it's going to be epic.

"Darlin', I'm all brain and no heart."

The exaggerated portrayal of the two leading characters makes this book a huge disappointment. We already know that Kane is the smartest vampire in the Realm. The purpose of this story is to show how emotionally stunted he is. The problem is that the reader gets hit over the head with so many examples that it becomes painful to read.

In a bid to get his attention, Amber causes mayhem in Kane's lab --- yes, the one which is used to track a virus that is affecting the immortal world. Lives depend on the research being done. Of course, this behavior makes him love her all the more.

"...when I was cleaning up string cheese and rabbit poop, the realization dawned on me that I was putting up with such nonsense for only one reason. I can’t live without you.” GAK!

Amber has a GED in order to show that all Kane's book learning means little. All the ways he has helped lead the Realm count for little all of a sudden. Even his brother says that Kane is not that smart. Our genius vamp, who has a vast wealth of knowledge, had never thought about plastic's impact on the environment until Amber told him about it. Her animal rights zealotry is nothing short of ridiculous. She expects everyone in the compound to change their dietary habits and get rid of any leather furniture or clothing. She doesn't even want silk clothing worn because of the poor worms. What? Newsflash: Silkworms held hostage... Stick a pin in my eye!

The worst example happens when she is given a blanket: "Guilt filled her from using the wool blanket, but she couldn’t throw it off. Poor sheep.

The only problem with Rebecca Zanetti books are that I CAN NOT wait for the Next book!

Provoked is book number 6 but classified number 5 since tempted is a novella. I have been waiting for Kane's book for a while. Kane is the middle brother, a Scientist and doesn't believe in Love since you can't measure it or see itin his lab. So therefore it doesn't exist. When this book picks up they are still trying to find the baby brother of the group, Jase. Jase was capture by demons about four years earlier. So Kane is being sent to find the "Demon Destroyer". The "DD" aka Amber will help the Brother in there attempt to save Jase from the demons.

Loved Kane! He is so straight laced yet when "Provoked" by his mate...the Alpha finally Takes CHARGE in all the right ways.
Another thing I loved about this book is Janie. I am on Pins and needles for what is to come.

Provoked
by Rebecca Zanetti

This is my favorite book from The Dark Protectors Series!

The book description provides an adequate idea of what one should expect, so I will only provide my thoughts and opinions...

This installment of the series was Kane Kayrs' HEA with Amber Freebird. Although he is the least emotive of the five Kayrs brothers due to his inherently analytical, logical and scientific proclivities, Kane turned out to be one DOMinating vampire--literally and figuratively.

Who knew Kane Kayrs was such an über-alpha male?!? It never fails--it's the quiet intellectuals that always seem to have that `little extra something' under the hood, so to speak....

The elements of BDSM were absolutely appropriate for Kane's character, as he was the only brother who consistently controlled his (and everyone else's) emotions. It made sense that he would also maintain that control in his bedroom, which ultimately provided the hottest `mating scene'--EVER! I LOVED IT... LOVED HIM!

And yes, whips and chains DO excite me... so, I may be somewhat biased regarding this book.☺

The action, emotion and suspense quickly moved this story along. The exposition designed to provide the back-story at various times was appropriate and did not affect the scenes in any way; the pacing was perfect.

It was great to visit the other brothers, their mates and the extended family units. Jase's circumstances were ferreted out and partially resolved in this novel. I am definitely looking forward to a complete and total resolution as it relates to Jase (hopefully, soon). Janie and her two suitors are still a huge mystery and such an intriguing story arc--I can't fathom where this story line is headed, but I am `in for the long haul.'

This was an incredibly exciting and (at times) intense read. I can't wait to see what's next...
