About the Author
No stranger to cross-cultural praise and worship among Christians, Larkins earned a B.A. in Bible and music composition from Colorado Christian University, during the Jesus Music era and served in traditional churches, as well as Y.F.C. youth and various African groups leading in worship and praise. She now studiously serves the wider body of Christ by transcribing psalms for singing and reflection, and by mentor-counseling.

At the end of most of the pieces are notes (I prefer to look at them as mini devotionals) discussing the particular scripture. Included are numerous scripture references to read. Lots of scripture is a big plus for me in any book.I felt this made it more than just a song to sing.
I understand this can be used in with a group, but my desire was for my personal time with God. The Word says the Lord loves for us to sing praises to Him. This is something I have wanted to incorporate in my daily personal worship. I feel it draws me closer to Him and prepares my heart and mind for the day. A church hymnal is of course a great source but Psalm Hymns adds even more choices. I love the concept of reading that particular Psalm and singing a song specifically for it.
For in whatever way you choose to use this book, it is a true treasure!

Accompanying the Psalm Hymn Book is Caroling through the Psalms that include wonderful hymns set to Christmas tunes for the enjoyment of all during the holiday season.
I recommend these books for Music Directors, Choirs, Soloists, Praise Teams, and individuals wanting fresh interchangeable lyrics to old hymn songs.
I received these books free through the Book Crash reviewer program in exchange for an honest opinion in accordance with the guidelines of the Federal Trade Commission Guidelines.
Things I liked most:
Using melodies already known to the Believer to enhance the Word.
Having this collection at my fingertips to use in the worship service.
A smaller set of Psalms set to Christmas music and carols was included in the package. (Caroling Through The Psalms by L.L. Larkins)
The author included the opportunity to send the reader/performer's recording to them personally for possible inclusion on a future digital release.
Things I didn't like:
Matching known melodies to these psalms sometimes resulted in awkward rhythmic patterns.
The message of some of these psalms was lost in the wordage.
I think there is great potential in this collection. I give kudos to the author for the incredible amount of work it took to create this set.
