About the Author
Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi is widely recognized as perhaps the most important Jewish spiritual teacher of our time. Reb Zalman’s teachings incorporate wide-ranging knowledge of the spiritual technology developed by peoples all over the planet. Known as the father of Jewish Renewal, he is committed to a post-triumphalist, ecumenical and Gaian approach. His many published works include Davening: A Guide to Meaningful Jewish Prayer with co-author Joel Segel and All Breathing Life Adores Your Name, edited by Michael L. Kagan.

Many of the psalms are pure joys to read or read aloud. His use of modern idioms is refreshing. And I like the way he translated a phrase used in a number of psalms, often rendered as "song of ascents" in other translations, as simply "Up" or "an up song by David."
It was poignant when I noticed that the print date for the copy I received was July 3, 2014 - the actual date of Reb Zalman's death. This translation is another gem among the many books he published. I would urge interested readers to also consider other books he wrote including From Age-Ing to Sage-Ing: A Revolutionary Approach to Growing Older and Wrapped in a Holy Flame: Teachings and Tales of The Hasidic Masters.
