In this book, Liz Koch brings together information and insight about the iliopsoas muscle that you can't find anywhere else.
As a professional bodyworker and movement educator for over 25 years, I've met many people - clients, chiropractors, physical therapists, dancers, practitioners of yoga and other somatic therapists - who recognize the importance of the psoas muscle for optimal postural alignment, back health, and over-all well-being. Very few of them, however, can explain the significant and complex relationships that the psoas has with other muscle groups, with our internal organs, and with our emotional experience. And even fewer know how to adequately release their own psoas tension, to fascilitate optimal psoas tone, or to teach others these essential skills.
Liz Koch has spent over 20 years exploring this muscle and its influence, and she generously shares her extraordinary discoveries with us in her book. There are many drawings that help to clarify the text, which not only covers the basics, like location and function of the psoas, but extends into self-care exercises and application of these ideas to everyday considerations, like what kind of shoes or chairs or sports can support psoas health. There's also an entire section addressing the role of the psoas in women's cycles, pregnancy and menopause.
This book is a revelation! I recommend it to anyone who is searching for the keys to self-awareness and more vibrant health.

As the author of The Psoas Book, I paid close attention to everyone's written responses. My new 30th Edition of The Psoas Book has been revised and edited. I think it meets a much higher standard than the previous version. Please check it out!

Sincerely, Liz Koch

This book places a plethora of information around a very specific subject right at your fingertips. I have discovered much information that I can use on my own body as I move to eliminate low back pain. As a mother I found it very informative in regards to allowing children to develop at their own pace; why not to put them in exersaucers, etc from the perspective of the psoas muscle. It is definitely something else to consider if you are experiencing low back pain, menstrual cramps, infertility, etc. Releasing the psoas will not be a cure-all for every body, but this book provides some interesting food for thought! I plan to use a lot of the information on fear and the psoas with my prenatal yoga classes as an extra tool for helping expectant parents with labor and childbirth. Admittedly an editor could address the spelling errors, etc. but the content is valuable and thought-provoking if you can simply release projecting perfectionism onto the author and appreciate her hard work, 20+ years of experience with and passion for this very important muscle!

Liz Koch's book is jam-packed with information on an often overlooked but very important muscle. The book was recommended to me by a Rolfer, and I was amazed at how much more there is to our bodies and their functioning than what we know. Liz Koch explains in easy-to-understand language how the psoas encompasses all aspects of our lives. This book is great for anyone with a lumbar lordosis (overarched lower back). I've been doing the exercises in the book for several months and have noticed an improvement in my posture and movement. I highly recommend "The Psoas Book!!"

I was really hoping to find out more about the action, interaction, and influence of the different aspects of the psoas and its fascia. I believe it is a complicated muscle / fascial area with varying effects on the spine, hip, and whole body, depending on which fibers are tight. This book did NOTHING to help me with understanding the psoas from that perspective. Since the ENTIRE BOOK is about the psoas, how could that be missing??? Also, it could have used some editing.

This book is in serious need of rewriting! I got so frustrated trying to make sense of some of the instructions that in the end I had to email the author to find out whether there were some pages missing between the text on p.57 & p.58!

This is a very expensive price for such a slim book with poorly drawn stick figure illustrations.

I found this book frustrating, primarily because I think Ms. Koch probably has a lot to offer, but this book does a poor job of conveying it. I found the text and illustrations confusing and poorly edited.

Years of on an off aching in my hip area after a gymnastics injury as a teen explained, and resolved in 2 weeks, while doing easy pleasant exercises from this book. I can do these exercises now while sitting and watching the weather on TV, and also as a passenger on car rides.
Laying in bed in the morning, and before sleep. No need for extra gym membership, or outfit.
Liz Koch, I want to thank you for putting this amazing information together. In 2 weeks I have grown almost an inch as the tight psoas muscle released my full height. The several simple exercises requiring no equipment beside our own body are brilliant. Doing them 1x daily and then paying attention to the psoas muscle every now and then is unwinding decades of stress from my body. I noticed that I smile more often, and I breathe with more ease.

This is a book I highly recommend to anyone who has suffered from back pain, poor posture, feeling of shallow breathing,or belly sticking out from a fairly athletic body. I am a professional in body aligment field. A client told me about The Psoas Book about 3 years ago. It was on my wish list about 2. Don't wait as long as I did, reap the benefits now.
