In this prequel to the hit science fiction crime drama anime series, Psycho-Pass: Inspector Shinya Kogami reveals how the legendary Enforcer was once an ace detective! Working within the city-regulating Sybil System, Inspectors must fight crime in a future where a single number measures your criminal tendencies and determines if you are useful to society!
An artificial organ with a numbered brand is the key piece of evidence that leads Section 3 to a network of organ smuggling! They must set up a complicated trap in order to catch the culprit! However the real perpetrator may not be who they think it is...
Reviews for the Psycho-Pass anime series:
"On the whole, Psycho-Pass is a grim, interesting show that poses some philosophical questions about what makes a criminal. We are all capable of doing bad things at times-should we be punished because we thought of hurting someone before we act on it? Or because we were victims?"-Anime News Network
"Makes good use of the dystopian future genre, good foils and parallels throughout. Some neat visuals..."
-Anime News Network
"Psycho-Pass is a compelling cyberpunk mystery..."-Kotaku
"All these crimes-and the series itself-are tied together by a puppet master antagonist working behind the scenes. Much like the Moriarty character from BBC's Sherlock, the main villain of Psycho Pass is a "consulting criminal." While he rarely dirties his hands himself, he is the man working in the shadows to supply the murderers with the resources they need to get away with their crimes. In this way he is shown to be brilliant, competent, and more than a little terrifying-despite the ultimate failures of each of his murderous clients."-Kotaku
"You will emotionally invest in these characters. You will be made to feel and have empathy towards them. The main characters are some of the strongest I have experienced in a while and the side characters also impacted me greatly. Agent Kogami is an interesting character who has both physical and mental strength that makes him really likeable (and loveable in my opinion)."-IGN
"Psycho Pass is the best crime-thriller-science fiction anime I have watched and will definitely be recommending to others as well as watching again in the future."-IGN

Fantastic manga! This is a prequel to the anime series Psycho-Pass. You'll get to see Kogami's younger days as an inspector with a whole new crew of enforcers! You will see many familiar faces from the anime but if you haven't seen it yet, that's fine too. It's mainly about the new crew of characters so you won't be missing much. I recommend this manga series to any who love Psycho-Pass and Kogami Shinya, or just any others who want to read about crime mysteries taking place in the future. Great series, I have been a huge fan for a long time! ❤️

Our son is in med hold of Air Force boot camp. Not much around that they are allowed to do. This is one of them. I loved the Psycho Pass series - it is the absolute best anime out there.

I have not seen the Psycho Pass anime yet, so my review of this prequel book would be wholly pertaining to this manga only. What I gathered from the short intro to the dystopian world is that there are methods to gauge criminal activity and that determines a person's worth in society. The officers of the Public Safety Bureau are like the police, in that they investigate and apprehend latent criminals - but there is a hierarchy within them - Inspectors, who are like the bosses and Enforcers, previous criminals, who are now serving as muscle. The world is such that even exposure to a latent criminal can cause spike in mental activity, thereby making the former as pariahs to society. People balance their mental state with drugs and try to live 'the good life'.
Now, as for the main plot, it revolves around a mysterious emergence of organ theft from a hospital. Kogami and his colleagues investigate the appearance of a natural organ (there are synthetic ones in this world too) with a number stamped on it. Following the clues and the path of registered surgeries, they dig to find out who has been stealing organs and where are these numbered organs coming from. The story is fast-paced and exciting, and though only a small part of the mystery is revealed, I found it to be an interesting one. I am, obviously, excited about future volumes, and now I am contemplating getting to the sequel anime pretty soon.

Great illustrations, easy to read emotions.
Interesting to see the prequel, and the back story. I found some of the dialog hard to figure out who was saying what a few times. I prefer the anime to the manga myself it just didn't have the same fun level.

If you enjoyed the anime

This is the first of 4 manga that acts as a prequel to the anime. If you enjoyed the anime, then you will enjoy this manga. It is a quick read (but so are most manga) and, just like in the anime, there are disturbing scenes that may not be suitable for all audiences. The art is excellent and the story is a page turner.
This is the first manga that I've purchased that is published by Dark Horse (they are largely a comic book publisher in the West), but they did a good job. The book book is aesthetically pleasing; however, it is slightly smaller than Yen Press's standard manga size. Hopefully they will do a better job at making each volume the same size which is something that irritates me about Yen Press books.
I am looking forwards to the rest of this series and I hope they also translate the other Psycho Pass manga and light novels!

I buyed vol 1 - 4 and I love it!
I liked Inspector Akane Tsunemori and the anime Psycho-Pass too. I like that you can get more infos about Shinya Kogami before the incident of Sasayama.
